A while ago on the Tumblr I posted a series of rambling, go-nowhere tales I called Toy Stories and now you people get to suffer through a few of them. Most of these yarns are spun around the well-worn topic of my aging into this hobby and watching most of the places I used to hunt go away, and tonight is no exception. One of the two Kmarts I frequented as a single-digits child (for those keeping track 3401 W Greenway Rd, Phoenix, AZ 85053) has a big "STORE CLOSING" banner up on it, and I had to go in to see if I could get some 90% off underpants. (This was not to be.) As a bonus, wouldn't you know it, the store is the new record holder of the oldest Hasbro Star Wars toy I've seen in the wild.
So I got the new Amazon Exclusive Vintage Collection TIE Interceptor here, and the big question I've been hearing - a lot - is "is it different?" The answer is yes, actually - the plastic color is different enough from other movie versions of the ship to be notable, so let's find out more.
If you've been feeling that Hasbro's offerings have been a little lacking lately, Bloomberg has an article with some proof. Headline: Lego Beats Hasbro as World’s No. 2 Toymaker Amid Asia Sales Jump. According to the article:
Friend of the site (to whom I owe an email or two) Daniel sent me this link to a Japanese site showcasing Hasbro's recent Saga Legends and Mission Series 3 3/4-inch action figures in blind boxes. These new-to-me figures appear to be in Hasbro-branded boxes, which is unusual for the Japanese market, and as far as I can tell there are no obvious difference between their not-blind and likely cheaper US counterparts.
Were you waiting on the Hasbro Star Wars Amazon Exclusive Slave I? Well... uh... it looks like it's going through some more drama. After almost a year of waiting since it was teased at Celebration VI in Orlando last year, we finally started to get our Amazon exclusive The Vintage Collection jumbo Slave I vehicle. It's 20-inches long, almost 50% bigger than the previous releases of Boba's vehicle, and has more features than ever. One of these features is a rotating wings and a gravity-centered pilot's station inside the cockpit, and in the 2010 The Clone Wars Rise of Boba Fett Battle Pack it worked great. This new version needs some work - a bad spring prevents things from locking properly. Want to fix it? Go get a Phillips head screwdriver, an old clicky pen, and read on.
A few of you have written in because your Amazon Exclusive The Vintage Collection Boba Fett's Slave I vehicle has arrived! But here's the thing - some of them are showing up in a nice Hasbro-made white mailer box, and others, well, aren't.

This is the larger mold of the ship, which is modeled after the 2010 The Clone Wars version of the vehicle sold at Toys R Us. With The Black Series' 6-inch action figure line, Hasbro is focusing on adult and collector fan favorites which means Darth Maul is a sure thing. Traditionally the one character from the first prequel that everybody agrees is worth owning, Hasbro did a great job on this figure and it's probably the best-looking action figure of Mr. Maul we'll ever see. Hasbro's launch of The Black Series' 6-inch action figure line kicks off with a figure that wasn't (but should've been) in the original line with the Sandtrooper. Having transformed from just a stormtrooper with mud and a shoulder pad to a surprisingly robust creation with unique knee armor, multiple guns, a giant backpack, and ammo pouches, this is undoubtedly the first 6-inch retail figure that you not only want, but simply must have.
