TOP NEWS: "Always in motion, the future is," and for the past 6 months, there has been a lot of big news for the franchise. The announcement of new Star Wars films, changing play habits, and increasing production costs have prompted Hasbro to re-align their strategy for 2013 by cancelling Droid Factory, shortening the retail cycle for the Yoda Line look, and introducing two new action figure assortments with one targeted towards adult collectors and the other towards children.
We have received an update from Hasbro announcing the cancellation of the Droid Factory assortment in 2013, pointing to pricing and value as reasons for the decision. Many of the figures announced last summer for this line will be released in the fall, with further announcements being made at Toy Fair next month. It's so hard to say goodbye, but Hasbro follows up on their plans to re-issue Vintage Collection action figures that were popular, like Starkiller and Shae Vizla, and others from 2012 waves (like more of the Red Kithaba variant). We've posted photos from today's Hasbro panel and booth. There are a few things to be excited about, including a TRU Vintage Slave I in 2013 and images of new Droid Factory and Clone Wars figures. Not much in terms of exclusives, but a new assortment of down-sized Class II vehicles to make them more affordable for the mommy market will surely cause debate.
Hasbro repaints 2009's awesome AT-ST mold, repacks it in a Vintage Collection box, and offers it up as a K-Mart exclusive. For $34.99, it's rightly priced without a figure compared to the $44 that included one with the Legacy Collection Wal-Mart exclusive. Are the superb Vintage packaging and enhanced deco enough to make you collect another Chicken Walker?
Hasbro may not have an exclusive for Celebration VI, but they still have something planned for their booth, including another Droid Factory Parts Swap. They also officially confirm the internet only exclusivity of Vintage Wave 7:
