Via the Star Wars Galactic Hunter Figure of the Day Blog: Battle Droid (The Retro Collection). This one's a little weird - the sculpt looks similar to the 1999 figures, but the backpack took design cues from Boba Fett. It's melting into the back, and while it looks weird I do enjoy the design decision as it's based on an actual Kenner product. Also the Battle Droid has a far more interesting pose than most Retro figures, with a bent elbow that gives him a lot of personality. Read on!
Via the Star Wars Galactic Hunter Figure of the Day Blog: Queen Amidala (The Retro Collection). She's in that six pack at Target you may find now, and has a lot of very 1980s details like the wavy fabric pattern on her leg interiors as well as the Leia-ish poses of her hands. She also has some thing no original figure had, like the extended collar element and her long hair. Overall, it's a pretty great figure. Read on!
Via the Star Wars Galactic Hunter Figure of the Day Blog: Qui-Gon Jinn (The Retro Collection). As part of the new Episode I retro 6-pack, this is a pretty nice figure - the lightsaber and fabric cloak are great accessories, while the figure has a nice head sculpt that looks like it would fit in with a lot of the originals. The hair would've broken right off the head were it made in the 1980s probably, so just be happy that this one was made in modern times. Read on!
Via the Star Wars Galactic Hunter Figure of the Day Blog: Jar Jar Binks (The Retro Collection). I have been seeing a steady trickle of this figure at Target, where it's an exclusive closed-box six pack with six individually carded figures inside. This is one of the better ones - his hands are more modernized than most retro figures, but he's still pretty charming and fits in more Mini-Rigs than I anticipated. Read on!
UPDATE: Now open to all customers.
Hasbro Pulse has the shared Star Wars Retro Collection Star Wars Episode II & Episode III Multipack up for pre-order right now - but only for Hasbro Pulse Premium members. Usually these things go up for everybody later, but now it's restricted and it's $59.99 - not a bad price compared to other 6-packs. If you like this set, Target most likely has its The Phantom Menace set in stock at a store near you right now - but this set is coming later this year with Jango, Anakin, Padme, and more.
Hey hey, it's the fanstream - and pre-orders are coming tomorrow. What's new?
Shop Disney/Hasbro Pulse split The Retro Collection 6-pack, with a nice-but-odd mix of Attack of the Clones Mace Windu, Jango Fett, and Padme Amidala with Revenge of the Sith Anakin Skywalker, General Grievous, and Clone Trooper. I'm looking forward to this.
As they warned, The Vintage Collection HasLab got punted to... we don't know when. But that's probably a good idea, because a lot of pre-orders are about to go live and we've only got so much money. A X-Wing Pilots 4-pack with a Duros and a green-skinned lady from... OK I admit I have no idea.
Pipeline reveals include Ahsoka's take on a live-action The Clone Wars Anakin Skywalker, a 4-pack of Shriek Hawk Mandalorians, and most enticing, a Pulse/ShopDisney exclusive Mandalorian Forge playset. Can they support the playset in a small exclusive offering? We shall see!
For The Black Series...
Via the Star Wars Galactic Hunter Figure of the Day Blog: Darth Maul (The Retro Collection). To celebrate 25 years of the movie, as tomorrow is 25 years of Midnight Madness, we're going to review this 6-pack - currently at Target - until we look at 'em all. Maul's details are a little soft, but he has a better pose and is generally interesting to fuss with. He can't fit in the Sith Infiltrator though. Read on!
Via the Star Wars Galactic Hunter Figure of the Day Blog: The Mandalorian (The Book of Boba Fett, The Retro Collection). This is just like the last one, but they swapped the Amban Phase Pulse Rifle with a Darkaber from Moff Gideon. It's a good figure, but if you've been all-in so far, you have all of these parts. Via Hallmark: Star Wars™ Darth Vader™ Vintage Figure Ornament . Yes, that does indeed look like a carded Kenner action figure, with no weathering or funky stickers, that you hang on a tree. (True story, this is how my parents gave me a few of my figures on Christmas.) It's $22.99 and measures 3 x 4.5 x 0.7 inches... so you might want to just buy a Star Wars The Retro Collection Action Figures Set of 6, which includes Vader as well as an additional five figures.
Via the Star Wars Galactic Hunter Figure of the Day Blog: Morgan Elsbeth (The Retro Collection). I just saw her on clearance at Target over the weekend, but she's been scarce. This figure has no accessories, and is missing some key make-up detail, but is otherwise pretty excellent. If you see her on sale, definitely pick up one. Read on!
Via the Star Wars Galactic Hunter Figure of the Day Blog: Yak Face (The Retro Collection). Depending on your age and when you got into these toys, this might be considered to be an unattainable grail - and Hasbro reissued it last year, making it available to most Americans for the first time at regular retail prices. He's a well-made replica that looks and plays great - the colors are a little tweaked, but considering buying a 6-pack of figures is probably cheaper than an unpackaged Yak Face has been for most collectors' careers, that's probably a worthwhile purchase. Or it would be, had it not already sold out. Read on!
Via the Star Wars Galactic Hunter Figure of the Day Blog: Mon Mothma (The Retro Collection). Why does she have a blaster? I have no idea - most figures in the 1980s would have, but Anakin didn't, so it's probably just for fun. Read on!
Via the Star Wars Galactic Hunter Figure of the Day Blog: Sabine Wren (The Retro Collection). We looked at the $28 Vintage figure last week, and this $12 Retro figure isn't as fancy - but it's a satisfying release with lots of accessories. Read on!
The live stream is over, finished! Pre-orders begin for these items - or at least most of these items - tomorrow.
The big news and the biggest surprise to me was the Pipeline Reveal of The Retro Collection 6-pack of Revenge of the Sith and Attack of the Clones figures for Shop Disney and Hasbro Pulse. It's at 40:19. Highlights include Padme (AOTC), Mace Windu, Anakin Skywalker (ROTS), General Grievous, and Jango Fett. Also an Episode III Clone Trooper in plain white. Hopefully this means regular drops of 6-packs are in the cards for other movies.
Via the Star Wars Galactic Hunter Figure of the Day Blog: Wicket W. Warrick (The Retro Collection). The nose paint is a little off, and the hood feels very different from the rubbery 1984 original - but it's still cute, small, and last I checked, sold out. Get this set if you can find it at retail price. Read on!
