Diamond Select Toys and Gentle Giant! Diamond Select Toys is embracing and adopting the Gentle Giant house style. Busts from Star Wars Rebels and The Clone Wars include familiar black display stands, while one thing that's very familiar - the Gentle Giant brand name - seems to be disappearing. There are still plenty of awesome statues for most price ranges, including Luke Skywalker looking wistfully at the sunset and a preposterously huge $600 retail Darth Vader on Cloud City. It's him about to tell Luke about his parentage. You know the scene.

I'm not going to lie to you - I'm not a fan of The Black Series Centerpiece concept. Statues are made by so many companies, so a 1:12 scale (6-inch) non-articulated figure on a display base with places to pose your other action figures on a shelf isn't particularly delightful to me. It's kind of antithetical to the whole action figure motif - it stands there, it looks good, and it should be in the $50-$60 ballpark.
If you liked Unleashed figures from 2002-2007, you're going to love the more expensive, heavier, and electronic boxed The Black Series Centerpiece Collection. The roughly 6-inch scale statues are...well, let's let Hasbro take it away:
STAR WARS: THE BLACK SERIES CENTERPIECE Figure

Showcase some of the most incredible STAR WARS battle scenes like never before! Each CENTERPIECE Figure Dramatic Moments collection features iconic scenes enhanced with premium light and sound effects. With Hot Toys' announcement of their new 1/6 and 1/4 scale license, it will be interesting to see what direction in both product and quality Sideshow will be pursuing. They certainly make a strong case by continuing a formidable representation of Sixth Scale figures like the upcoming Sixth Scale X-Wing Luke and Arc Trooper. The new Premium Format Boba Fett also looks fantastic with its more action oriented stature as opposed to the version released a few years earlier.

Attakus continues their fantastic collection of 1/10 scale Elite Collection statues with a 212th Battalion Utapau Clone Trooper and Revenge of the Sith Classic Clone Trooper. Each measures about 8 inches tall and cast in premium cold cast porcelain with a production run of only 1500 pieces (999 pieces for the Utapau Trooper).
Gentle Giant came in with all hands on deck for this year's Comic-Con. With 9 exclusives and 4 being Star Wars, GG wanted to make a splash this year. Their other non-Star Wars licenses that include The Walking Dead and their proprietary Honey Trap line are doing phenomenally well. But an assortment that has been steadily growing and gaining more fans is their Jumbo Vintage Kenner line.
We have loaded a ton of photos in our SDCC 2013 Image Bank of all the wonderful, amazing stuff that Gentle Giant, Sideshow, Kotobukiya, and Acme Archives have in store for 2013 and 2014. Life size Vintage Stormtrooper? Why, of course!
Looking for a cool new Padme statue? It's snow problem. Gentle Giant has a new, 10 1/2-inch tall full-body Padme Amidala Statue inspired by the "snowbunny" outfit from the original Clone Wars micro series. It's due in Q2 2014 - right after the snow melts - and comes seated on some familiar props. More after the jump.
After the "freeze yourself in Carbonite" collectible, now the Disney Parks Blog reports you can also be a Stormtrooper! It's coming May 17 to Disney's Hollywood Studios as part of Star Wars Weekends. It's $99.95 and takes a few weeks to deliver, but that's a lot faster than never getting to be a Stormtrooper that sits around on your desk. And would you believe a similar, cheaper product exists for Star Trek too now?
Gentle Giant has released their latest solicitations featuring new and exciting product slated for release in Q2 2013, including the phenomenal "realistic" Spider Maul Statue and the animated style Dewback and Sandtrooper.
He's armed to the hilt and ready to do some serious hurt on some unsuspecting bounty, at least according to Sideshow's Mythos expression. Standing about 19 inches tall (26 inches with the long blaster rifle), the upcoming Mythos Boba Fett strikes a compelling pose and ready for you to pre-order as a Sideshow exclusive.
It's probably the most compelling Mythos statue we've seen so far just for the fact that it provides a glimpse of Obi-Wan Kenobi evolving from McGregor to Guinness and that large backpack holds so many caveats of interest, like his Clone Wars armor and Anakin's lightsaber.
There's lots to see at Sideshow's Comic-Con booth, particularly if you're a fan of Boba Fett and Darth Malgus. The Mythos collection is stunning in person, and speaking of stunning in person, Premium Format Shaak-Ti is sexy and she knows it.
