The Vintage Collection

Image Bank: VC34 Jango Fett

By Mike — Wednesday, February 2, 2011

Take 2007's TAC Evolutions Jango Fett, retool his wrist gauntlets, swap out the JT-12 jetpack for a more colorful Z-6 pack with a removable "firing" dummy rocket, add some minor deco changes and a removable poncho, and there you have the "new" Vintage Collection Jango Fett. We're quite frankly slightly underwhelmed by Hasbro's effort, especially for a character that's worthy of a good "ultimate" upgrade. Keeping the figure carded in the awesome Kenner inspired card is probably a good option if you have the EVO version already.

Image Bank: VC33 Padmé Amidala (Peasant Disguise)

By Mike — Tuesday, February 1, 2011

If only all peasants dressed this finely. With swappable headpieces, a nicely done soft goods shawl, and detailed paint deco, the all new Padmé Amidala in Peasant Disguise makes a worthy partner to just also released Peasant Anakin. While it would be nice if someday Hasbro figured out a way to make a gowned Padmé sit, we're really not complaining. She's quite stunning.

Image Bank: VC32 Anakin Skywalker (Peasant Disguise)

By Mike — Tuesday, February 1, 2011

He's vastly improved from the original "Peasant Disguise" Anakin pictured on the cardback, with nice articulation and great paint detail, particularly on the tunic. The new Vintage AOTC era Anakin Skywalker came out much better in plastic than the pre-release Hasbro product shots, and we highly recommend upgrading your 2002 clunker for the newer, sleeker 2010 model today.

Image Bank: VC30 Zam Wesell

By Mike — Monday, January 31, 2011

Like a grape Otter Pop of perfection, the new Vintage Collection Zam Wesell impresses with a highly detailed sculpt and an evolutionary jump from the 2002 pre-posed, action featured Saga version. You've now got an almost spot on facial likeness of Leanna Walsman, removable helmet, swappable heads, and super-articulation. This one will be the definite version for awhile, folks. So make sure to pick her up!

Image Bank: VC29 Kit Fisto

By Mike — Monday, January 31, 2011

The Nautolan Jedi Master receives the ultra Vintage Collection treatment featuring an all new sculpt, super articulation, and a removable soft goods cloak. While Kit Fisto has had quite a few iterations in the past, this version has to be considered the best yet. The paint detail is quite nice and the poseability makes most older versions obscure. He'll also fit nicely in the new Wal-Mart exclusive Starfighter.

JTA: 2011 and It's Down To 7

By Mike — Sunday, January 2, 2011

Paul at JediTempleArchives has compiled a comprehensive report of which of the original Kenner 100 action figures remain to be updated for the modern Hasbro line.  It's a great read with a few caveats but it looks like we're almost there! Click here for the report.

VC13 Consumed by Darth Vader

By Mike — Monday, December 6, 2010

As Hasbro promised, the name tab, cardback, and POP for VC13, formerly known as Anakin Skywalker, is now appropriately called Darth Vader per his transformation and appearance in Mustafar. Of course, you now have two The Vintage Collection "Darth Vaders" on the pegs, the other being VC08, but that shouldn't confuse anyone, right?

VC15 Clone Variant/Correction

By Mike — Monday, December 6, 2010

Hasbro corrected the paint error on VC15 Clone Trooper's helmet with the appropriate line around the cap. This particular sample was found at a Target store in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

ToyFare Unveils New 2011 Figures

By Mike — Saturday, December 4, 2010

Courtesy of an astute member of the Rebelscum forums, scans of the latest issue of ToyFare magazine previews the upcoming The Vintage Collection action figures of Barris Offee, Bom Vidin, Weequay, and a brand spankin new upgraded Rebel Fleet Trooper! There's also unpainted first shots of Fan's Choice favorite winner Bastila Shan and one Doctor E!.

Print Ad: Vintage Strikes Back!

By Mike — Tuesday, November 30, 2010

Hasbro's latest print ad spotlights their new Vintage Collection and The Empire Strikes Back wave featuring Han Solo and Princess Leia recreating the Hoth Rebel base evacuation.

Preview: Target Vintage 9 Pack

By Mike — Saturday, November 27, 2010

The Vintage Kenner Star Wars 3-Packs are some of the most rare and difficult action toy collectibles to track down, let alone compile a complete set. To commemorate Empire's 30th anniversary, Hasbro teams up with Target to produce 3 packs within a 3 pack and reproduces the classic Kenner packaging that sends wings aflutter for many who love the nostalgia and design of the black and silver piping as well as that Kenner logo.

VC09 Fett Variant

By Mike — Thursday, November 25, 2010

It appears Hasbro made a paint modification for the Vintage Collection 09 Boba Fett for more character accuracy. The latest figures shipping with the Return of the Jedi wave has paint changes in the helmet,  from a green outline on the cheek to black, and the blaster tip has changed from silver to black. There are also hue changes in the armor, specifically on the shoulder and knees. Finally, Fett's boots also has an altered paint scheme.

Image Bank: VC27 Wicket

By Mike — Thursday, November 18, 2010

The little Ewok warrior gets a superb sculpt upgrade with nice paint detail and includes an additional green cowl as you saw him wear in the Eighties animated series. The scale is also pretty close to where it should be and the superior work done by Hasbro on Wicket and the rest of the ROTJ wave instantly renders previous iterations obsolete. Pick one up, or two, because you'll want to display both cowls for sure!

Image Bank: VC26 Rebel Commando

By Mike — Monday, November 15, 2010

Military figures are a big part of Hasbro's DNA. But let's face it, their attempts at Rebels many times fall short. Perhaps it's because Rebel outfits aren't as flashy and sexy as Imperials? Until now. This new Rebel Commando brings promise that an ultimate Tantive IV Trooper is in our near future. With awesome sculpt detail and nice super articulation so you can battle pose him in all sorts of ways, we can only hope that head variants are planned for a later time.

By the way, we're almost sure this headsculpt is of a certain Hasbro Star Wars team sculptor.

Share your thoughts on this new Rebel!

Image Bank: VC25 R2-D2 UPDATE

By Mike — Monday, November 15, 2010

At last, Bar2-D2 has been upgraded for the 2010 Vintage Collection and he's a real winner with a removable drink tray, sensorscope, and even Luke's lightsaber. He's got an all new sculpt and a retractable third leg too. R2-D2 is hitting store pegs now and we recommend you picking him up along with all the other winners in this wave!

UPDATE: We have added a few additional shots to get a better idea of Hasbro's slightly scaling down this more "accurate" version of our favorite blue astromech. We also thought a gratuitous "Happy Hour" shot wouldn't hurt either. Cheers!
