Anakin Skywalker

Image Bank: VC80 Anakin Skywalker

By Mike — Saturday, January 14, 2012

Hasbro expanded upon The Phantom Menace Celebration scene finale where we witness little Ani in full Padawan garb. The figure includes a lightsaber, training helmet, and training remote orb. This is a super articulated, with great likeness, vast improvement from the 1999 "Naboo" figure, which until now had been the only version of Padawan Anakin released. It's worth the wait as Hasbro packed in 14 points of articulation, incredible detail, and even a soft goods skirt to plus it up. Can I get a "Yipeee"?

He's vastly improved from the original "Peasant Disguise" Anakin pictured on the cardback, with nice articulation and great paint detail, particularly on the tunic. The new Vintage AOTC era Anakin Skywalker came out much better in plastic than the pre-release Hasbro product shots, and we highly recommend upgrading your 2002 clunker for the newer, sleeker 2010 model today.

VC13 Consumed by Darth Vader

By Mike — Monday, December 6, 2010

As Hasbro promised, the name tab, cardback, and POP for VC13, formerly known as Anakin Skywalker, is now appropriately called Darth Vader per his transformation and appearance in Mustafar. Of course, you now have two The Vintage Collection "Darth Vaders" on the pegs, the other being VC08, but that shouldn't confuse anyone, right?

The "guts" of this sculpt was from the Sith Evolutions figure from 2005, which Hasbro retooled along with a new headsculpt for The 30th Anniversary Collection in 2008. Now that The Vintage Collection figure is considered the frontrunner, this SL version, with its limited arm articulation but not too bad a head sculpt, is relegated to secondary Battle Pack filler status. You know, for the kids.
