Star Wars Figure of the Day: Day 3,089: Gamorrean Guard (The Retro Collection)

By Adam Pawlus — Tuesday, December 12, 2023

Via the Star Wars Galactic Hunter Figure of the Day Blog: Gamorrean Guard (The Retro Collection). This is a new mold for 2023, based on the 1983 figure. A vintage Kenner figure has better sculpting, with sharper detail and better paint - but if you only know that old figure from photos or fuzzy memories, this is a really good substitute. It feels sturdy and he can hold the ax with no problems, with botoxed detail on the face and armor. Is it a perfect replica? No, he's a little wider-eyed and shinier in the silver - but if you're looking to fill out a scene with retro Kenner Gamorreans, were it not in a 6-pack, this would be a great way to do it. Read on!

Star Wars Figure of the Day: Day 3,032: Han Solo (Endor, The Retro Collection)

By Adam Pawlus — Thursday, May 25, 2023

Via the Star Wars Galactic Hunter Figure of the Day Blog: Han Solo (Endor, The Retro Collection). The skin color of modern retro guys aren't as good as the originals, but the sculpt is excellent and so is the coat. Given the coat covers most of this somewhat hard-to-find 1984 figure, I'd say it's worth getting aboard the "good enough" train. Toot toot.

Also happy 40th birthday to Return of the Jedi, the milestone that reminds the VHS generation of fans that they are now old.

Star Wars Figure of the Day: Day 2,803: Boba Fett (Deluxe ROTJ, The Black Series 6-Inch)

By Adam Pawlus — Tuesday, April 20, 2021

Via the Star Wars Galactic Hunter Figure of the Day Blog: Boba Fett (Deluxe ROTJ, The Black Series 6-Inch). This one ships in a case by himself - that's good! But he's $30 - that's bad. But he comes with a bonus sawed-off blaster - that's good! But his capture claw gauntlet is just some weird clip-on bracelet - that's bad. Can we read on now?

Surprise Walmart Black Friday Exclusive - ROTJ Titan Hero Series Speederbike, $10

By Adam Pawlus — Friday, November 25, 2016

3208 Walmart stores are often a frustrating and exciting source of exclusives and bundles in November.  This year, the "we were told this was canceled" Rogue One Star Wars Titan Hero Series vehicle assortment arrived at Walmart in aisle dumps along with Poe/Speederbike, Stormtrooper/Assault Walker, and some Marvel Mask/Figure 2-packs.  At $10 a whack they're spectacular values for kids and something collectors in 20 years - when Titan Hero Series becomes the Mego of this generation of children - cost more than a trip to the movies for your family.  But hey, you can go get these now if you're lucky.

The lines aren't necessarily terrible in all locations, and if you're one of the many toy vampires out there the after hours shopping trip will do you more good than refreshing your social media feeds and postponing sleep another hour or three.

Review: Vintage Collection Scout Walker (AT-ST)

By Mike — Sunday, August 12, 2012

Hasbro repaints 2009's awesome AT-ST mold, repacks it in a Vintage Collection box, and offers it up as a K-Mart exclusive. For $34.99, it's rightly priced without a figure compared to the $44 that included one with the Legacy Collection Wal-Mart exclusive. Are the superb Vintage packaging and enhanced deco enough to make you collect another Chicken Walker?

Review: VC99 Nikto (Skiff Guard)

By Mike — Friday, June 1, 2012

This is the Nikto Skiff Guard we've all been waiting for. It's based on the character the original 1984 Kenner action figure was referenced from and this Vintage Collection version has chock full of sculpt and paint detail that has surpassed all expectations, plus he's got 14 points of articulation to boot.

Image Bank: VC56 Kithaba (Skiff Guard)

By Mike — Tuesday, April 17, 2012

Kithaba was originally mistaken as Barada in the Kenner line, but Hasbro has updated the red trousered Klatooinian Skiff Guard for The Vintage Collection and I'm happy to see him. He's not perfect, and there are a couple of flaws in the design, but overall the figure is a winner.

Gentle Giant: Star Wars Dart Board and Kenner Jumbo R5-D4

By Mike — Thursday, January 19, 2012

Gentle Giant releases solicitations for their upcoming Star Wars Dart Board and Kenner Jumbo R5-D4. The dart board, set in high quality hardwood, features Princess Leia in her slave outfit by comic book artist Adam Hughes. R5-D4 was digitally scanned from the original Kenner figure and even includes a "clicking motion" when his head is turned. Both are slated for release in the 3rd Quarter of 2012.

Carded Deleted Scenes Figures Surface

By Mike — Thursday, January 12, 2012

Images of the upcoming Return of the Jedi Deleted Scenes wave including Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, General Cracken, Lando Calrissian, and the Mon Calamari Rebel Pilot have been posted at Sandtroopers.com. Due to a lack of good source photos, Hasbro had to rely on composite art and these turned out fantastically in our opinion.

Image Bank: VC55 Logray (Ewok Medicine Man)

By Mike — Tuesday, January 10, 2012

Hasbro does a great job with an all new, nicely articulated Logray and even better having him in his original Kenner card. While the figure included in the POTF2 Ewok 2 pack wasn't bad for its time,  this will be the definite version of the furry shaman for awhile.

Image Bank: VC26 Rebel Commando II (Revenge)

By Mike — Monday, January 9, 2012

A head swap for Rebel troop builders is always welcome.  Hasbro essentially took the head from the TSC 2006 Rebel Trooper and popped it into the new TVC body and voila! "New figure". Both head variants are readily available on store pegs in both the "Return" and "Revenge" cardbacks.

Image Bank: VC63 B-Wing Pilot - Keyan Farlander (Revenge)

By Mike — Friday, January 6, 2012

A slightly repainted figure from the 2008 Rebel Pilots Evolutions set (which one can still find lingering around a few ToysRUs shelves by the way), Keyan Farlander's timely  release nicely converges with that of the K-Mart B-Wing. While the figure is redubbed after a character from the 1993 X-Wing PC game, he's still one of the original Kenner 93 and neat to see in a Vintage style card.

Image Bank: VC64 Princess Leia (Revenge)

By Mike — Wednesday, January 4, 2012

When Hasbro released this Slave Leia figure in 2009, she came with interchangeable legs to be alternately posed sitting down in Jabba's throne. From a purely aesthetic point of view, we thought the POTJ Deluxe Slave Leia was one of the better versions of our bikini clad Princess, but the '09 figure was truly  creative. Slave Leia never was released in the Vintage line making VC64 a pick for carded collectors.

Image Bank: VC62 Han Solo (Revenge)

By Mike — Monday, January 2, 2012

This Han Solo features a redeco of the 2006 figure from the Shield Generator Assault Battle Pack . Overall, it's a good package since it offers a decent figure carded in the classic Kenner cardback and character photo. The paint job on this Han is improved from the Battle Pack version, giving him a much better likeness.
