A giant Opee sea killer has arrived at LEGOLAND® California!
LEGO announced a renewal of their Star Wars license at Toy Fair translating a successful thirteen years of not only fun and creative construction sets, but also a transformation into a global property that also includes theme parks, video games, and television. Not that the construction sets have played second fiddle either. LEGO reported over 200 million sets sold since 1999, making it one of the most successful toy lines.
LEGO has renewed their Star Wars licensing agreement with Lucasfilm for another 10 years. Their Star Wars line has experienced tremendous growth over the past six years and ranks among the best selling global toy lines, with an excess of over 200 million boxes sold since it debuted in 1999. Tis the season for randomly marked-down products! Walmart has marked down their Ultimate Gift Sets for Star Wars as well as Transformers and Beyblade, but prices vary by store-- the $30 sets were as little as $15 in my neighborhood, which is a steal given you get 5 figures in the set.
Jabba's Palace is just one of several new sets coming to LEGO in a 2012 preview over at Hoth Bricks, a French fan site. Preliminary packaging mock-ups are shown and these are presumably legit-- we'll know more in February for Toy Fair! Read on!
If all that weren't enough, the very charming LEGO Star Wars: The Padawan Menace TV special is coming to home video at Wal-Mart this week. It's $13.00 and includes young Han Solo-- the same figure was handed out as a promo item at Comic-Con, if you were very lucky or in the right place. Just click here to pre-order, or wait to hit up Wal-Mart this weekend when you get your 2 gallon pickle jar, rubber gloves, AAA batteries, and/or sack of peanut M&Ms.
We upload photos from the LEGO booth at Comic-Con to our Image Bank. The nice folks at LEGO were kind enough to show us an advance screening yesterday of The Padawan Menace television special at a local theater. All we can say for the time being is this will BE WELL WORTH while seeing this evening at 7 PM on The Cartoon Network.
LEGO unveiled their 2011 Comic-Con exclusive this year with little fanfare and at a first come first serve basis. Foregoing the raffle system of previous years, LEGO is offering a specially packaged edition of their upcoming 2011 Advent Calendar. The set features 6 minifigures, including an exclusive Santa Yoda.
LEGO treats us to a trailer of The Padawan Menace television special which premieres on The Cartoon Network this Friday 7 PM EST.
After the runaway success of their wildly popular building sets, video game collaborations and animated shorts, The LEGO Group and Lucasfilm will join forces once again for an all-new adventure – their first-ever original television special. Premiering on Cartoon Network on Friday, July 22 at 7:00 p.m. (ET, PT) in high-definition computer animation, the 30-minute original standalone special – LEGO® Star Wars: The Padawan Menace – will feature the charm, action and irreverent humor that have become the signature style of LEGO Star Wars animation collaborations.
So remember a few months ago when we posted a shot of a really big Executor toy that LEGO hadn't announced yet? Well, LEGO announced it with some high-res pics. So let's all pretend it's a surprise and read on! (Seriously, it looks cool.)
Would you believe... Bacta Luke in LEGO? I wouldn't, but I was directed to this page on LEGO.de showcasing LEGO 7879, the Hoth Echo Base. It's impressive, includes 2-1B, and is loaded with stuff. You'll want to see it, so go see it.
A number of fan sites found a deep-linked image of LEGO Star Wars Super Star Destroyer Executor as seen here. Multiple figures are included, but there's no actual listing, and the deep-linked image hosted on LEGO.com has since been taken down. But there it is!
