Q&A: Star Wars Toys (For Kids) and Future Movie Products

Q&A by Adam PawlusGalactic Hunter Star Wars NewsThis week: Q&A: Star Wars Toys (For Kids) and Future Movie Products. If you're wondering how far in advance Hasbro may be working on the new movie toys, or what kind of future reveals you'll see on streams for future kid toys, this is the update for you.

The archive is, of course, not here right now - but I'll try backfilling some of it in the days ahead in case you missed some recent entries.

Star Wars Review: Walrus Man (The Retro Collection)

Star WarsI was trying to post this Thursday when I found out the site was broken: Walrus Man (The Retro Collection). It's pretty good! The resolution isn't as high as the original figure - but you might not notice. If you have an original 1979 Walrus Man, you will frown over the smoothed-out wrinkles, the missing whiskers, and other details. But if you never owned the original, you are unlikely to realize anything is missing - the colors are good, and the feels are right. Also it's cheaper to buy the reissue, provided you want the other 5 figures in the box. Read the whole review.

What Went Wrong with Galactic Hunter and Why Is It Different Now?

Entropy. Decay is inevitable and since I took over Galactic Hunter I knew the day would some day come where my inability to maintain a content management system would bump into our web host breaking something and, for now at least, making it impossible for me to recover it. I have much - but not all - of the old site somehow locally and some of it may be getting re-uploaded over time. People don't tend to delve into the archives much, and I don't want to re-format 20 years of content and ramblings.

Instead, for now, I'm going to clone a site that I can maintain because I coded it myself and that's what Galactic Hunter is going to be for now. And possibly forever. I hate acknowledging my limitations, but it's this or spending hours, days, or weeks having conversations that go nowhere that may not result in recovering the old site.

Thanks for your continued support, your readership, and your patience as I grind my teeth down losing two decades of hard work while trying to code what I hope will be an acceptable workaround. Will it work well on your phone? No. But I assume my main audience will probably still have a PC or Mac or Linux-based UFO on which to read these things.

It is my hope to repost old Q&A over time - maybe one a day until what's in my archive is back up - but I can't be sure exactly how all of this is going to shake out yet. I'm coding all of this on the fly.

I've been working on some hopefully fun things digging as far back as the 1990s to bring for August. August 1 marks 30 years of me writing about Star Wars toys on the internet, so some old Q&A stuff and other goodies will be dredged up. I'm sorry I wasn't able to preserve everything, but things going away is what made us appreciate so much in the 1980s and 1990s. Maybe I'll come up with something better. Maybe it'll alienate those of you who are still here. But you've put up with me this long, hopefully you'll stick it out through another rough patch... and if I can find a way to bring the site back, I will.

Your pal,
