Meet the New Site, Same as the Old Site

For reasons I don't know, our host fixed whatever was wrong with the database and the original site is back up and running, and I'm backfilling the stories from the outage as I write this. It was down for a little over two weeks.

This version of the site will (temporarily?) remain online and I'll bring it back again should the hosts ruin over 20 years of hard work again. Thank you for your continued readership and support.

Your pal,

Star Wars Review: IT-0 Interrogation Droid (with Darth Vader, Epic Hero Series)

Star WarsI was trying to post this Thursday when I found out the site was broken: IT-0 Interrogation Droid (with Darth Vader, Epic Hero Series). It's probably on clearance in a store near you! The Target exclusive set includes a Stormtrooper and a MSE droid too, and for $15 or less it's a really good deal. Vader has 5 joints, but this IT-0 droid has little moving to speak of. Sure you can spin around some limbs, and you have a clear display base, but mostly it's just going to hover there looking cool. It and the MSE droid are exclusive to the set, so if you want a complete set of Epic Hero stuff you'll need to pick this one up. Read the whole review.

Q&A: Star Wars Figures You Can't Have and Won't Get

Q&A by Adam PawlusGalactic Hunter Star Wars NewsThis week: Q&A: Star Wars Rarities You Don't Want and Droidless Kid Stuff. A lot of figures came out in Europe in 2011-2012, and a lot of fans just ignored them. Did you? Probably. Also I don't know if R2-D2 fans are going to be happy in 2025.

Amazon Ad Thing: New IG-11 Speeder Bike for Epic World of Action

Star WarsVia Amazon (yes this is a sponsored link): STAR WARS SW 4INCH Figure Vehicle Pack . It's actually an Epic World of Action IG-11, Grogu, and Speeder Bike set - and I believe it's an exclusive. The product listing doesn't have a name and it's not labeled as an exclusive, but I haven't seen it elsewhere so who knows what might happen in other stores in a few days. It's not bad for the asking price - pretty much the same as a regular retail Speeder Bike, with more stuff in the box.

Give it a look.

Star Wars Review: Joruus C'baoth (The Vintage Collection)

Star WarsI was trying to post this Thursday when I found out the site was broken: Joruus C'baoth (The Vintage Collection). Since 1991, fans have been asking for one - and we got one a while back in The Black Series. This one, which seems to use Dooku's hands, is the character's 3 3/4-inch debut. Read the whole review.

Star Wars Review: GS-C1B (The Book of Boba Fett, Droid Factory)

Star WarsI was trying to post this Thursday when I found out the site was broken: GS-C1B (The Book of Boba Fett, Droid Factory). It's good! The paint is even and excellent, with a good shine to it. It may no be perfect as far as matching The Book of Boba Fett, but the head is. The color is. In an era where we get a lot of "good enough," this is certainly that. If you can get this figure - or set - I'd say go for it. Read the whole review.

Amazon Has Friends Everywhere with new Andor Shirt

AmazonVia Amazon and a talented assosciate: Star Wars Andor "I Have Friends Everywhere" Quote Rebel Logo T-Shirt. It's an officially licensed made-on-demand tee based on this year's series. It looks good, and this is an ad link for it. You can buy it here in a bunch of sizes and colors.

Q&A: Star Wars Toys (For Kids) and Future Movie Products

Q&A by Adam PawlusGalactic Hunter Star Wars NewsThis week: Q&A: Star Wars Toys (For Kids) and Future Movie Products. If you're wondering how far in advance Hasbro may be working on the new movie toys, or what kind of future reveals you'll see on streams for future kid toys, this is the update for you.

The archive is, of course, not here right now - but I'll try backfilling some of it in the days ahead in case you missed some recent entries.

Star Wars Review: Walrus Man (The Retro Collection)

Star WarsI was trying to post this Thursday when I found out the site was broken: Walrus Man (The Retro Collection). It's pretty good! The resolution isn't as high as the original figure - but you might not notice. If you have an original 1979 Walrus Man, you will frown over the smoothed-out wrinkles, the missing whiskers, and other details. But if you never owned the original, you are unlikely to realize anything is missing - the colors are good, and the feels are right. Also it's cheaper to buy the reissue, provided you want the other 5 figures in the box. Read the whole review.

What Went Wrong with Galactic Hunter and Why Is It Different Now?

Entropy. Decay is inevitable and since I took over Galactic Hunter I knew the day would some day come where my inability to maintain a content management system would bump into our web host breaking something and, for now at least, making it impossible for me to recover it. I have much - but not all - of the old site somehow locally and some of it may be getting re-uploaded over time. People don't tend to delve into the archives much, and I don't want to re-format 20 years of content and ramblings.

Instead, for now, I'm going to clone a site that I can maintain because I coded it myself and that's what Galactic Hunter is going to be for now. And possibly forever. I hate acknowledging my limitations, but it's this or spending hours, days, or weeks having conversations that go nowhere that may not result in recovering the old site.

Thanks for your continued support, your readership, and your patience as I grind my teeth down losing two decades of hard work while trying to code what I hope will be an acceptable workaround. Will it work well on your phone? No. But I assume my main audience will probably still have a PC or Mac or Linux-based UFO on which to read these things.

It is my hope to repost old Q&A over time - maybe one a day until what's in my archive is back up - but I can't be sure exactly how all of this is going to shake out yet. I'm coding all of this on the fly.

I've been working on some hopefully fun things digging as far back as the 1990s to bring for August. August 1 marks 30 years of me writing about Star Wars toys on the internet, so some old Q&A stuff and other goodies will be dredged up. I'm sorry I wasn't able to preserve everything, but things going away is what made us appreciate so much in the 1980s and 1990s. Maybe I'll come up with something better. Maybe it'll alienate those of you who are still here. But you've put up with me this long, hopefully you'll stick it out through another rough patch... and if I can find a way to bring the site back, I will.

Your pal,
