Deviations from the normal course can at times turn into disaster, and then there are the few instances where it results into brilliant execution. The new Clone Wars "realistic" Anakin Skywalker has to be considered the best one of this character yet. Don't believe me? Take a look at the comparison shot with VC13 Anakin Skywalker to make you marvel in its superiority.
The likeness to Christensen is almost unmistakable. I say "almost" in a nuanced way, because it is nit picking, especially at this scale. Now, one wishes that they can do an Episode II and III movie Anakin in the exact same detail.
Appearance: The Clone Wars
Includes: Lightsaber, Lightsaber Hilt
Released: April 2012
Cardback: This collection brings to life the incredible story of good versus evil that captured our imagination and took us to a galaxy far, far away. Iconic Star Wars heroes and villains are captured with incredible detail and premium features to commemorate each epic tale in the Star Wars saga. May the Force be with you! [MORE IMAGES]
Sculpt: A superior effort all around for this all new sculpt. The head sculpt and likeness are excellent and his Clone Wars Jedi outfit captured in superb detail. The soft goods skirt works well here, even in more dynamic poses. The body is well proportioned and the points of articulation fairly well hidden.
Articulation: The figure has 14 points of super articulation for great poseability that includes ball joints in the shoulders, elbows, knees, and ankles. If you want to try to attempt a head swap to custom upgrade one of your older Anakin figures, the neck is ball pegged. He does have a V-crotch, which makes him perfect to pilot his starfighter, but not so much riding an alien beast.
Accessories: Anakin comes with a lightsaber and unlighted hilt, which look to have been issued before. The hilt doesn't have a peg to attach nor does the figure have a hole to attach it to, and that's fine for me really, as it looks more aesthetically pleasing.
Cardback: The composite cardback photo works well in updating an ROTS stock photo with his Clone Wars getup. And while I typically like reading the individual character bios, the new Vintage style "14 back" is awesome sauce. It's too bad the vehicles are all recycled goods with no Original Trilogy represented.
Topping Things Off: This Clone Wars "realistic" style is off to a spectacular start with Anakin Skywalker. I'm sure with the 3D re-releases, Hasbro will have an opportunity to upgrade those other core versions of Anakin and hopefully use this as a benchmark. It will be interesting to see how this figure will appeal to the younger television watching audience, but as with the rest of what has shaped up to be one of the best waves of The Vintage Collection so far, he's only packed one per case in the latest assortments and could be tough finding in stores at the early going. Easily our highest rating.
Rating: Most Wanted (***** 5 Bounty Points)
