HASBRO Star Wars Q&A (Post Celebration V Edition)

By Adam May — Tuesday, September 14, 2010

Galactic Hunter: The easiest and hardest question to tackle was partially answered at Celebration V. As collectors asked whether the Young Boba Fett's Slave I from The Clone Wars animated series would lead to Slave 1 from The Empire Strikes Back, the answer was simple and obvious —'Yes, if it sells well enough.' So there's an additional sales pitch! The question is, hypothetically (aside from paint ops) what changes could/would be made, and what figures (again hypothetically) would the team like to see included? This would be the perfect chance to get a mustachioed Bespin Guard out, or is he going to get the fully carded treatment?

Galactic Hunter: Did all of the children swapping droid parts (and showing off their "kitbash" droids) at the along with the adults offering to buy them do anything to persuade Team Star Wars to put together a little Build-A-Droid/Droid Factory playset? (It can be mostly cardboard even - it's obvious that the droids are the focus and play pattern. That was COOL!)

[Editor's Note: There was no response about even hypothetical pack-ins. We may yet see the mustachioed Bespin Guard wind up on a Vintage Collection card. Then again, which style of moustache would we get? There were several variants.]

HASBRO: We did take both modes of the vehicles (Jango and Boba's ships) into account when we designed the vehicle, so for the most part, let's say 95%, the existing model works great for an Empire Strikes Back version of Boba Fett's ride.  As for changes, there are a few tweaks we would like to make but it's a little too early to speculate since there is a long way to go before we would be able to produce an OTC version.

HASBRO: We have had plans - quite advanced - to do some simple-type Droid Factory playsets at one point but set aside those plans during our struggles with Legacy the last couple of years.  With Droid Factory now being retired (OK, we'll say "on hiatus") there aren't any plans to go back to those ideas right now.

[Editor's Note: Hey, readers! You can comment watch your language, please about your wishes to see items like an Empire Strikes Back version of Slave 1 or maybe some cool Droid Factory play environments. What are your thoughts?]

In my opinion, the modern

In my opinion, the modern line would be grossly incomplete without a modular Death Star environment and a Jabba Sail Barge set. Does it make financial sense? I think so.

Playsets

I would love to see Hasbro retackle the concept of playsets again and give us the fans the environments we are craving, Bespin Freeze Chamber, Hoth Wampa Cave, Emperor's Throneroom, Yoda's Hut, Bespin Gantry / Control Room etc...

I would definately drop the $$$ if Hasbro gave us some nice, very detailed playsets to displays the figures in. that would be awesome.

all figures and no play sets

all figures and no play sets is kind of boring. we know hasbro is working hard but some play sets would be nice once in a while, like that cloud city freezing chamber they did quite a few years ago.not just ships but locations.yoda's hut, emperor's throne room, the cantina, echo base hallways that connect etc. a medium size sail barge would be cool(wasn't it only two storys tall anyways)about the size of the new at at body w/o legs,to go with the pit of carcoon play set.just sayin one or two a year would be cool.

Factory base.

I never found the vintage factory base or the SAGA assembly line to be particularly exciting. If one were to follow the 'vehicle as playset' philosophy, then the sandcrawler interior would make the most sense. A BMF sandcrawler is probably not on the top of many wishlists so a cardboard pop-up interior would be the way to go. What if it had a conveyor belt, smelting oven and some cubbies to store droid parts? While I'm at it throw in a cloth cape Jawa and a BAD-mold C-3PO! I'd buy one for my son!

Slave I

I'm excited about the prospect of getting an upgrade to the ESB Slave I. As much as I want to support Hasbro, however, I think making the ESB Slave I depend on sales of the Jango Slave I from the Clone Wars is making me... somewhat less excited. I can't help but to recall the trouble that Shadow ARC had getting off the shelves before we could see the Y-Wing. After that debacle, I'm wondering why they decided to make the new Slave I a $100 package that included another whole vehicle and 6 figures. I'm guessing the rest of the items were repaints and cheap and added to add value to a vehicle that would have been expensive on its own, but I'd still rather pay $70 for a Slave I than $100 for a new vehicle and a bunch of stuff I already have, and I can't help but think this is the same thought process a lot of collectors would have. *cross my fingers that it'll sell through the holiday season*
