Galactic Hunter Video Theater: Star Tours

By Adam Pawlus — Saturday, November 3, 2012

This week in Galactic Hunter Video Theater, let's look at something that's technically a video with the original Star Tours. The 1987 theme park ride was basically a short film on a motion simulator, and probably prompted about as much fan discussion in the 1990s as the movies did in the 1980s. (We didn't have much to go on.) So click on through to see the original Captain Rex (an uncredited Paul "Pee-wee Herman" Reubens) in a rough video capture, after the break.

Galactic Hunter Video Theater Presents: The Clone Wars - Tipping Points

By Adam Pawlus — Tuesday, October 30, 2012

This week on The Clone Wars: the battle on Onderon ends! "Tipping Points" brings us a bunch of action and resolution, speeding things along to a swift conclusion. The four-parter gave us our first look at Onderon in animation while shoving all our major players to the background. Was it worth sitting through? Let's discuss! As always, spoilers and video await you!

Galactic Hunter Video Theater Presents: Troops

By Adam Pawlus — Saturday, October 27, 2012

This week in Galactic Hunter Video Theater, it's Troops, arguably the first fan film phenomenon of the internet age! In it, we see a bunch of special effects and voiceover pros put together 10 minutes that were, to say the least, a huge deal in the era of dial-up internet. In it, you'll see pre-501st Legion costumes and some sharp design work come together from 1997. Creator Kevin Rubio got quite a few decent gigs writing Star Wars comics (also The Clone Wars) as after doing Troops, so check it out after the break!

Galactic Hunter Video Theater Presents: The Clone Wars - The Soft War

By Adam Pawlus — Wednesday, October 24, 2012

This week on The Clone Wars: things happen! Not extent to wallow in and repeat exposition, the oddly named "The Soft War" bring us more action, more character, and actual events that you can recount as being different from the events you have seen previously. It's almost like we're spoiled! Ahsoka gets to be cool, Steela gets to show off, and we get to see some one-way shielding, which is apparently now a thing. As always, spoilers and video await you!

Galactic Hunter Video Theater: Star Wars - Movie on the Radio

By Adam Pawlus — Saturday, October 20, 2012

This week in Galactic Hunter Video Theater, it's something from NPR! I'll never understand why but for some reason Star Wars was adapted to radio, and it's quite neat. The first episode "A Wind to Shake The Stars" is all about Luke Skywalker doing things we never saw in the movies. Camie? Fixer? Biggs? They're all here. Could this be ground zero for the shared delusion of many fans believing they saw these characters in theaters? It's possible! So read on, good reader!

Galactic Hunter Video Theater Presents: The Clone Wars - Front Runners

By Adam Pawlus — Tuesday, October 16, 2012

We're back to The Clone Wars with "Front Runners," which is the second part in an ongoing story of Jedi-fueled rebellion on Onderon. The fight of the Onderon people against the Separatists continue, bringing us more time with Saw and Steela Gerrera and a fair amount of action sequences, plus more than a few throwbacks to a number of battles in the saga. As always, spoilers and video await you!

Galactic Hunter Video Theater Presents: Droids S01E01... The White Witch

By Adam Pawlus — Saturday, October 13, 2012

This week in Galactic Hunter Video Theater, it's more fun out-of-print goodness! Back in 1985, Saturday morning TV had The Ewoks and Droids Adventure Hour on ABC. You got 22 minutes of Ewoks, and 22 minutes of robots. Today, we look at The White Witch, the first normal-length episode of Droids which introduced us to things like Tig Fromm, Vlix, and a strange need of R2-D2 and C-3PO to be "owned." (There's a metaphor for a bad marriage in there somewhere.) Check out the full episode after the break.

Galactic Hunter Video Theater Presents: The Clone Wars - A War on Two Fronts

By Adam Pawlus — Tuesday, October 9, 2012

Taking a total turn away from where The Clone Wars was going, "A War on Two Fronts," takes us to a place which the Expanded Universe invented almost 20 years ago with the planet Onderon. Ulic and Cay Qel-Droma fought Beast Riders there, and now Anakin and Obi-Wan are bringing us on an adventure where they're training insurgents with philosophical debates over if this is training terrorists or helping people free themselves from the enemy. Shades of classic Star Trek and real-world politics paint this episode, which also shows Ahsoka fawning over the returning Lux Bonteri. Read on for more of S05E02, spoilers and video await you!

Galactic Hunter Video Theater Presents: Clone Wars 2003-2005

By Adam Pawlus — Saturday, October 6, 2012

This week in Galactic Hunter Video Theater, it's more fun we found from YouTube! I have no idea why it's up there, but the now woefully out-of-print Clone Wars 2003 Microseries is something you really ought to see. Seriously, this is must-watch stuff here. From Genndy Tartakovsky (Samurai Jack), the series spanned three very brief seasons over the course of about two hours. The first 20 episodes were about three minutes each... which was negotiated up from George Lucas' initial pitch of one minute per episode.

Galactic Hunter Video Theater Presents: The Clone Wars Revival Post You Didn't Ask For

By Adam Pawlus — Tuesday, October 2, 2012

The fifth season premiere of The Clone Wars, "Revival," brought us some familiar faces, improved animation models, and a bit part to knock your socks off! The return of Darth Maul continues, and this time around they're joined by some familiar faces which haven't been seen on the show before. Numerous spoilers and links to the full episode await you after the break.

Galactic Hunter Video Theater Presents: Droid World

By Adam Pawlus — Saturday, September 29, 2012

Welcome to Galactic Hunter Video Theater! You no doubt know that there are hundreds of nifty stories from and media presentations on the Star Wars universe, and a lot of old media has been uploaded to YouTube. Some of it is great. Some of it isn't. We kick this possibly weekly, hopefully regular feature with the book-and-tape read-along Droid World... and a little bonus trivia for some of you Man or Astro-Man? fans out there. Set aside about 13 minutes and be sure to have some speakers or headphones handy after the break.
