Disney World Adds 4 New Star Wars Droid Factory Figure Domes

By Adam Pawlus — Wednesday, December 30, 2015

Reader Frank chimed in to let us know/warn us that four more droids were added to the action figure part bins at Disney World in Florida.  No new bodies are available yet - but these four domes are.  Here's what he had to say:

"I am an avid fan and love my astromechs! I stopped out at WDW Hollywood Studios today and happened to browse by the Droid Factory counter at Tattooine Traders. Not expecting to see anything, just more of the mismatched 2015 domes series when I did see exactly that!! More mismatched domes and some that I had not seen before. I have not seen reports of these new additions. I found 4 new domes, but nothing new in the legs or bodies from before. Maybe they are on their way? Or maybe 4 domes is all there is?? Not sure when these hit the retail floor, but it looks like there are new parts coming for 2016. The 4 different domes are pretty evenly distributed out there, no shortage that I could tell. Just wish they had some matching parts to make coherent looking droids. Most interesting is the new black R4.5 [?] dome. If I learn more here I’ll send it in."

Star Wars Figure of the Day: Day 2,163: R2-Series Astromech Droid Grey and Green (not R7-A7)

By Adam Pawlus — Friday, July 3, 2015

Thanks once more to my pal Shannon, we've got a R2-Series Astromech Droid Grey and Green (not R7-A7) - plus a bunch more as part of the second wave of figures.  With this one there's a fine line between "proper configuration" and "I need one of each part," so you're seeing the "I need one of each part" configuration.  How does Ahsoka's droid translate to realism via theme park?  Read on!

Star Wars Figure of the Day: Day 2,160: R2-Series Astromech Droid Blue and Yellow (not R8-B7)

By Adam Pawlus — Thursday, May 28, 2015

Let's finish up this look at the first round of 2015 exclusives (more are coming in round 2) with the R2-Series Astromech Droid Blue and Yellow edition - this one is really close to the unreleased 2012 R8-B7!  And he has a swell hat, assuming of course that's the hat you opted for when you built him at a Disney park this year.   We switch gears tomorrow, so read on!

Star Wars Figure of the Day: Day 2,159: R2-Series Astromech Droid White and Yellow

By Adam Pawlus — Wednesday, May 27, 2015

The egg-like R2-Series Astromech Droid White and Yellow figure is today's release, and it ain't bad - we don't see a lot of white-domed figures.  Read on!

Star Wars Figure of the Day: Day 2,158: R8-Series Astromech Droid White and Blue

By Adam Pawlus — Tuesday, May 26, 2015

So now we're up to 25 of these in the 2015 series - but I'm still working through the first 11!  Today it's the R8-Series Astromech Droid White and Blue version, and there's an orange one coming shortly.   Amazing.   Get one if you dare, and read on!

Star Wars Figure of the Day: Day 2,157: R6-Series Astromech Droid White, Black, and Red

By Adam Pawlus — Friday, May 22, 2015

Today in Figure of the Day: R6-Series Astromech Droid White, Black, and Red!  If you missed the news, R6 droids will appear in the new movie - so that's a good reason to get one like this.  Read on!

Star Wars Figure of the Day: Day 2,156: R5-Series Astromech Droid Red and Black (not R5-K6)

By Adam Pawlus — Thursday, May 21, 2015

Today: R5-Series Astromech Droid Red and Black!  It's like R5-K6, which is really expensive on eBay from the Scramble on Yavin set, but this is.... less expensive.  If you're at a Disney Park, at least.  Read on!

Star Wars Figure of the Day: Day 2,155: R2-Series Astromech Droid Silver and Blue MK II (not R2-D2)

By Adam Pawlus — Wednesday, May 20, 2015

Today in Figure of the Day: R2-Series Astromech Droid Silver and Blue MK II!  It's a lot like the last R2-D2, but not - other than the dome, each piece has slightly different tooling and a lot of deco tweaks.   It's for completists only, but at this point that's a lot of us.  Read on!

Star Wars Figure of the Day: Day 2,154: R2-Series Astromech Droid Black and Gold (not Goldie R3-S6)

By Adam Pawlus — Tuesday, May 19, 2015

Today we look at the Disney R2-Series Astromech Droid Black and Gold (not Goldie R3-S6), which is pretty close to the Separatist droid from the TV show.   It's black, it's gold, and it even has some silver in spots.   It's arguably worth the trip to get this one, or if you're me, it's worth pestering friends to help you out until it shows up in the mail.   Read on!

Star Wars Figure of the Day: Day 2,153: R4-Series Astromech Droid Blue (MK II)

By Adam Pawlus — Friday, May 15, 2015

One of at least a few droids to be redone in the Droid Factory, this R4-Series Astromech Droid Blue (MK II)  is actually fairly different - it's not just a slightly different shade of blue, but the paint masks on the dome are different, too.   Even though at first glance it looks the same, it's not - you can see some pretty striking differences when you click here to read on.

Lost Wave Found - Legacy Collection at Go! Calendars

By Adam Pawlus — Thursday, May 14, 2015

A store chain I've never heard of has Star Wars toys that shouldn't exist, at prices you probably won't want to pay - $19.99 gets you one carded Legacy Collection figure from the doomed 2012 line.  Carded samples were known to exist in the hands of a few (OK, 1) private collector so this is something of a shock.  Click here for more at Yakface.com, click here for Rebelscum's report.

At press time I am unsure if any are different (or how different) from the figures that eventually came out in Amazon's boxed set or the first wave of Black Series releases, but you can all take solace in the fact that there are no truly exclusive characters to be had here.

Star Wars Figure of the Day: Day 2,152: R3-Series Astromech Droid Silver

By Adam Pawlus — Thursday, May 14, 2015

The R3-Series Astromech Droid Silver  is pretty good - I daresay this is the dome to end all domes.  It works with every body configuration I've tried so far, it just matches nicely.  As such, you should get a few - I just have the one, so go get me some more while you're at it.   Read on!

Star Wars Figure of the Day: Day 2,151: R9-Series Astromech Droid Silver

By Adam Pawlus — Wednesday, May 13, 2015

You don't know that you want the R9-Series Astromech Droid Silver, but you do.  The colors work really well here, and the previous brightly colored versions - while nice - aren't quite as cool as this release.  You can get it at Disneyland now, but if you aren't going there to build it you can read on!

Star Wars Figure of the Day: Day 2,150: R7-Series Astromech Droid Gold

By Adam Pawlus — Tuesday, May 12, 2015

Another day, another droid!  Our pal Shannon helped me out so now we're going to look at more robots starting with the R7-Series Astromech Droid Gold.  It's a new Disney droid - notable in that the "Hasbro" name has been scraped off the figure's legs now - and you can get it on your next trip to Anaheim.  More are coming later this year, we hear, but how is this one?  Read on!

More Droid Factory - Variations, New Legs, and Madness - MADNESS

By Adam Pawlus — Saturday, April 18, 2015

Readers Colin (pictures and info), Shannon Cosman (pal/pics/info), and Michael Magdalena (lots of info) have written in to tell all of us about what we can expect from the new Droid Factory line.  This is the next big batch of figures showing up at Disney theme parks as I write this.   We're all still putting together a complete picture of everything (I have an image 9 new figures after the jump) so you know what to expect.  We'll put together a matrix of all the new parts as soon as we have in-hand samples, but until then?  Here are the Top 6 7 8 Things You Must Know about New Disney Astormech Droids.

Yes, it is a good day to be a droid fan - minus the headaches we're all about to get trying to track these down.
