Star Tours Disney Blog Reveals More Parts

By Adam Pawlus — Thursday, May 10, 2012

First up, one of our pals on Twitter tweeted us last night that the Star Tours Astromech Droids would run about $12.95 each, or 2 for $18.95.  This article shows more pictures of retooled heads and other changes, and the claim that only the R6, R8, and R9 heads are exclusive is something of a half-truth-- remember, the R5 droids appear to have no antennas this time around, plus all the droids have holes in their head. The items are said to be at Disney Hollywood Studios only so far (so no Los Angeles) and to date the claim is that there are 71 parts to choose from, and threatens that parts and colors may change.  Read more.

71 parts

The first list that was released for the parts consisted of 63 pieces. 25 heads, 13 bodies, 10 right legs, 10 left legs and 5 middle legs. The other 8 pieces (to make 71) appear to be hats, mickey mouse, goofy, yoda etc. I repost the list as it first appeared a month ago as a reminder. This list doesn't include the hats, just the 63 non-hat parts.

Only $250?

If there are 25 heads, then you only need to buy 13 two-packs at $18.95 to get all the pieces. That comes out to just under $250. If you have the disney pass discount, you can knock off a little more.

Now if only they would bring that to the west coast, they can be making that much money off me!

What is already there?

They say over 71 pieces. But what is already out there? If you can live with not having a hole in the head, they show R2D2, & R5D4. Hasbro has already released those, so 8 pieces down. The blue and orange body look the same, 2 more. I you don't care about Astros with hats, easily 5-8 more pieces down. It will be interesting to see just how much is really exclusive to Disney, other than holes in the head

Pricing

Well according to the comments section :"The single droid pack is $11.95 each (plus tax). The double droid pack is $18.95 each (plus tax)."

So unless you have a good thousand dollars lying around, a complete set is nigh impossible.

Right now it looks like there

Right now it looks like there are, at most, 25 different heads and about 10-20 different bodies. So if you just want one of each part, you can probably assemble a "kit" for $300ish depending on availability.

My wallet just blew up in a blaze of glory.

Imagine the "complete set"

Imagine the "complete set" selling on eBay? Yikes! Since I don't plan on going to Disney any time soon, I guess I'll bury my head in the sand and pretend these don't exist... Very cool, though.

I'm assuming/hoping market

I'm assuming/hoping market forces might keep the price down. There's only so much of a premium people would be willing to pay.
