Q&A Month: Is Star Wars Erasing Ziro the Hutt? (From 2012)

By Adam Pawlus — Thursday, August 14, 2025

Question #1: from September 3, 2012:

Ziro! Come on, realistic or TCW styled - there has to be a way (and no, he can't be a Jabba repaint). It's pushing the envelope, but what are the chance sof us ever seeing those other Hutts as well?

My answer from 2012 With commentary from 2025:

Hasbro said that technically they are doing Ziro in Fighter Pods and said there are no plans to get to Ziro in 3 3/4-inch at this time. Interestingly, they more than hinted Jaxxon might be a future candidate for Fighter Pods as well, which actually gives this line a strong weight and high level of interest if they just do everything eventually.

Fighter Pods did indeed keep running well into the sequels, before hitting a wall and going away. We never got a Jaxxon Fighter Pods, but we did get him in The Black Series, which I never would have guessed. I also never would have guessed we'd make it this far without a 3 3/4-inch Jaxxon figure in any format. Also, I saw him in a collector toy store in The Black Series for $2.99 last week, so that can't be good.

Hasbro's been hesitant to do interesting body types in any of its lines lately. We get very few interesting droid shapes or aliens. Since Hasbro does have a Jabba mold, it would be nice to see a "realistic" Ziro head plopped on that body. There's no sign of that kind of thinking these days. We get new streaming series stuff, we get some legacy stuff, and we get stuff you can easily repaint/remold from that stuff. Really, that makes Ziro an interesting choice but without a big push on The Clone Wars right now, we're out of luck. But it's a good thing I'm here. Hasbro, if you're reading, the 20th anniversary of The Clone Wars (and Ziro the Hutt) is in 2028. We'd love to buy one!

With the focus on Attack of the Clones in 2026, it makes sense to do The Clone Wars in 2028. I assume we'll get Star Wars (1977) for its 50th in 2027. If we don't, we riot.

The Clone Wars introduced Ziro the Hutt in the pilot movie, so it would be really fun to see a HasLab surrounding that. Would it be a good idea? Probably not. I'd buy a Teth monastery or Anakin's The Twilight spice freighter, or Hutts or whatever they're game to do. I am unsure if we'll see it. Hasbro didn't do much for the anniversaries of the comic books, the Ewok telefilms, or the Ewoks or Droids cartoons. (We did get toys for these, just not as a "celebration.")

The Clone Wars toy line - and it was a toy line - did pretty well. The secondary market prices climbed pretty quickly on some of the good stuff, and even some of the high-volume figures we're starting to see rising prices. It would be great to see Hasbro revisit that format, because it was generally quite excellent. Some figures had stands, some had optional rocket-firing gear, and while figures had a lot of articulation they weren't necessarily $17 worth of articulation. It might be worth revisiting the whole shebang, especially if we got a Gunship to contemplate repainting.

My hopes for the future aren't high. At this point my big worry is we might suffer too many "we already have that figure" releases between the honest-to-goodness new guys, and I'm finding my excitement and joy just goes through the roof when Hasbro makes new characters. Conversely, whenever a new wave comes out that's new versions of five to eight figures I've had for ten years, that's boring. So what's the solution? Ziro, obviously. Throw in Sy Snootles too, I've got money.
