(NEW YORK, NY, February 18, 2005) International Toy Fair is the biggest and longest running trade show in the toy industry. Every year hundreds of toy companies representing thousands of toy lines display their best and brightest offerings for press and potential buyers. 2005 could easily be called The Year of the Sith, as Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith is the primary theme for numerous licensees at the big show.
Hasbro, the master toy licensee, has several key toy lines, including its flagship action figure line, focused on Revenge of the Sith. Featuring 56 individual action figures, a small fleet of hero and villain vehicles, a handful of deluxe action figures with extra play features, and a modest playset, the line is destined to thrill fans of the Star Wars saga. Hasbro’s initial offerings, along with most other licensed merchandise, will debut on April 2, 2005.
After surprisingly good sales figures in 2002 for its assortments of Jedi and Sith Lightsabers, Hasbro has turned up the heat on the popular role-playing toy, offering numerous different light-up Lightsabers in the Sith line.
After purchasing gaming giant Wizards of the Coast in 2001, Hasbro is putting its stamp on the gaming game with the new Attacktix gaming concept. Combining the gaming world with the endless chase of Gashapon collecting, Attacktix features a variety of figures that players can use to battle with other gamers. The last figure standing wins.
Playskool, Hasbro’s children’s division, has a smattering of Galactic Heroes figures featuring Sith villains and heroes. The Jedi Force children’s line is expanding its catalogue. Force Battlers are big, chunky, and full of action for kids who may be too young for the trademark action figure line.
LEGO is getting Sithy with a big line-up of vehicle and scene block building sets. LEGO is set to push their line in a big way at Celebration III this spring in Indianapolis, and at their own Star Wars Weekend event at LEGOLand in Carlsbad, CA.
Code 3 Collectibles is going to go Super Size later this year with their upcoming AT-AT diecast collectorcentric vehicle/model. Expect big, big things from Code 3 Collectibles.
Bustmakers Extraordinaire, Gentle Giant Studios have a no-photo policy this year, but we will detail every nook and cranny of their upcoming goodies.
