(NEW YORK, NY, February 16, 2003) For 2003, Master Replicas showcases the latest addition to their masterpiece signature series with the forthcoming Darth Maul replica lightsaber. In addition, they debut the first ever “non-weapon” replica collectible with the new Jedi Training Remote as seen in A New Hope. What other goodies does MR have planned for ’03? “You’ll see a continued focus on our quality authentic lightsabers”, notes Master Replicas’ Vice President of Sales Keith Bornholtz, “these will include a lot of things from the first trilogy.”
Darth Maul’s lightsaber (limited to 3000 pieces worldwide), recreated from original Lucasfilm archive materials, measures a full 21” in length and is made from durable machined and die-cast components. The tattooed one’s weapon of choice is priced at $449 and now includes the attractive display stand. Also offered is a signature edition version signed by Ray Park limited to a scant 1,500 pieces with a $549 price tag. Although splitting it in two pieces was discussed at one point, the actual retail version will not have this feature. “It more has to do with keeping it as authentic as possible and ensuring the alignment and detail stays a true actual representation seen in the movie,” says Bornholtz.
The Jedi Training Remote (limited to 2500 pieces worldwide), a memorable piece of Luke’s first experience with the mystical Force, represents the first replica prop not based on a weapon or lightsaber. Constructed from over 160 durable PVC and ABS injection components, each replica is assembled by hand. "We’re very proud of it and pleased the way it came out, “ adds Bronholtz,” we spent the time to get the right painting and antiquing look so that it looks weathered. We wanted to do something different with the presentation as well since it wouldn’t look as good enclosed in an acrylic case, where you get some defraction. The unique stand gave us the opportunity to do that as well as giving it a “levitational” look.” The Jedi Training Remote retails for $249 and is expected to be available on March 6th.
Later in the year, Master Replicas will be releasing first ever offerings of limited edition prop replicas based on Obi-Wan Kenobi (A New Hope), Luke Skywalker (The Empire Strikes Back), and Darth Vader (The Empire Strikes Back). Hinted on a promotional banner at the booth, but not “officially” announced, is Mace Windu’s gold plated electrum lightsaber. Also continuing for ’03 are new replica framed blueprints to complement the prop pieces. These are sold separately at the official Master Replicas site.
