As the third Clone to hit stores, is it possible Hasbro finally figured out how to make army builders with enough variety that everybody can be happy?

The figure includes one Blaster and one Turret with Projectile.

Sculpt/Articulation/Gimmicks/Paint

The Clone Trooper Pilot is the third Clone figure, but contrary to earlier reports he is not, repeat not a remake of the red version of the Clone Trooper. On this version, the neck can turn from side to side and pivot up and down. There are the standard hip, waist, and shoulder joints, plus there's a cut joint above each elbow. As far as articulation goes, the red version is still the winner... but the sculpt on this one seems a little cleaner and overall, it's still quite good.

The armor is what it should be, the proportions are right... this figure meets expectations as far as the sculpt goes, although it does have the ability to look up and down-- a big plus. So this Clone can move at 8 points, while the red one has 12 and the white one had 5. So there's a lot to love out there.

Most amazingly, the articulation is well hidden. But then again, the design of the character allows for that easily, with lots of solid pieces and a black bodyglove... what can I say other than this makes for a great figure.

Other than that, the figure itself is what it is-- good, solid, a nice piece overall.

Accessories

Aside from the small rifle, there's a pretty cool little turret that snaps on to the Republic Gunship. Since you need two turrets and two pilots, it's easy to buy what you need to assemble a "complete" Gunship. In theory.

It shoots... uh... it also kinda comes apart in places fairly easily. It's a nice extra and will probably be remembered fondly by those who got one... assuming they don't lose it.

Overall, the accessories are good. Obviously, Hasbro is putting a little more effort into them and it's starting to show! Good job, Hasbro!

Packaging

It's another entry in the popular Saga range, making it basically the same as everything else you've seen so far. Not especially special, but not bad either.

Availability

Every neck of the woods is different, so far I've only seen them at Kay-Bee. As it's an open-stock item, it should be widely available at some point if it isn't already.

Fin

At roughly $5-$7, it's a quality toy at a fair price. Buy two, they're cheap. If you like the design, it's a real winner.

Our sample was obtained from a Kay-Bee toy store in September 2002.
