Via the Star Wars Galactic Hunter Figure of the Day Blog: Star Wars Figure of the Day: Day 3,353: Wedge Antilles (The Retro Collection). This new set seems to be available in abundance at Phoenix-area Targets, but I'm told pre-orders still aren't shipping. Well.
I opened Wedge first because I wasn't sure what to make of him - I had vague opinions about the others, but Mr. Orange Pants was a bit of a mystery. Comparing him to other Retro and Kenner pilots, he's a little too "modern." I found his sculpt to be very similar to 2015 Saga Legends X-Wing Luke, with similar proportions and detailing. There's a distinctive buckle on the back of his white flight vest that's lacking on most pilots, even last year's Epic World of Action Luke is simpler than Wedge. It would seem the sculptor used a modern figure rather than anything Kenner, as Wedge's torso seems more refined than figures like 1998 Pilot Biggs.
But is he a bad figure? No, he stands well, he sits well, and he'll fit in all the X-Wings I tested. Functionally, he works, but his flared-out helmet and oddly modern torso fall a bit short of Kenner expectations. Read on!
