Star Wars Figure of the Day: Day 2,710: Dak Ralter (The Black Series 6-Inch)

By Adam Pawlus — Thursday, July 23, 2020

It's Dak Ralter (The Black Series 6-Inch)! This comes with the Snowspeeder vehicle, which is feature-packed and has a kind of a crummy clear plastic used for the glass canopy.  Otherwise it's all splendid and worthwhile.  Read on!

Target Getting Star Wars Galaxy's Edge The Black Series Captain Cardinal

By Adam Pawlus — Tuesday, July 21, 2020

3819 Coming soon to Target, Galaxy's Edge The Black Series 6-inch Captain Cardinal Action Figure.  Or "Who?"

The world is changing, and Star Wars fandom has quietly changed from the 1990s original-trilogy focused marketing to kids of the 1970s - which arguably peaked with Rogue One: A Star Wars Story - to an attempt to try to make it a franchise for all people.  Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.  The young-skewing Resistance series just sort of got swept under the rug - and it feels like The Rise of Skywalker is joining it.   To promote the era of the First Order, there are lots of comics, lots of books, and a giant theme park experience that a lot of people just plain can't go see right now.  Captain Cardinal is part of that.  It's a new generation of fan, and one that the olds probably didn't have the time to read up on before being shown this shiny new figure.

Basically a red Stormtrooper in a cape, the figure has two blasters and even though I have not and probably will not read the novel from which he came, I can say it's a cool figure.  I'll buy a red Stormtrooper.  Heck, that's something I pushed hard to do a few years ago.  But I digress - Hasbro says:

Target Getting Star Wars Galaxy's Edge The Black Series DJ R-3X

By Adam Pawlus — Tuesday, July 21, 2020

3816 You might recognize this one from a gift set last year.   Star Wars Galaxy's Edge The Black Series DJ R-3X seems identical to the gift set version [FOTD #2,618] except packaging and the other figures that are now missing from the box.  It's a nice droid - lots of deco, lots of moving parts, and it's colorful too!  I'd get it if you can.  It's $24.99.  Hasbro wrote:

Target Getting Star Wars Galaxy's Edge Hyperdrive BB Unit

By Adam Pawlus — Tuesday, July 21, 2020

3814 Also coming to Target - red, appropriately - is the Star Wars Galaxy's Edge Hyperdrive BB Unit.  Did you like the RC BB-8 a few years ago?  It's kind of like that.  Price is expected to be $99.99.  Hasbro writes:

Target Getting Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge Millennium Falcon Vehicle

By Adam Pawlus — Tuesday, July 21, 2020

3800 Let's get this out of the way: it's $399.99.   The revised The Legacy Collection Millennium Falcon is now the Galaxy's Edge Millennium Falcon Smuggler's Run Vehicle.   It's just different enough to make you mad, with unique deco and two radar dishes.  The original 1977-style pizza dish is there, as is the rectangular sequel trilogy model.  Dirt deco is unique, and it has different figures.  Chewbacca, Hondo Ohnaka, and Porgs are included.  Is it worth more than a 2x price increase over 13 years?  Probably.

Stormtrooper with Blast Accessories (The Black Series 6-Inch)

By Adam Pawlus — Tuesday, July 21, 2020

Long gone and originally planned for Toys R Us, the Stormtrooper with Blast Accessories (The Black Series 6-Inch) became a shared exclusive with a Disney Store debut.  It's the same basic Stormtrooper, minus the long rifle, but with added blast effects and a 2-part display stand which doesn't connect to much of anything else.  Read on!

Not SDCC: Star Wars Heroes of Endor The Black Series Set

By Adam Pawlus — Monday, July 20, 2020

3795 Also not quite SDCC-exclusive are Pulse's pricey box set at $110.  Due in September, this Heroes of Endor figure set includes four figures, a Speeder Bike, and 6 accessories - or maybe more, it's hard to tell.   In it, we see Endor Poncho Luke, Leia minus the poncho - we're unclear if it's included at press time - Han Solo sans Endor Trenchcoat, and Paploo.  It's a curious combo platter, and we don't even know if the helmets are removable yet.

More information on Han's coat or Leia's poncho if and when we get it.  As of now, this is the only known place to get Paploo.  With Teebo sold separately, these mark the first 6-inch scale Ewok action figures in this line.

Here's what Hasbro has to say:

Not SDCC: Star Wars 40th Anniversary Wampa

By Adam Pawlus — Monday, July 20, 2020

3791 A few years ago, Hasbro sold a pretty good Wampa with a pretty good Hoth Luke for about $40.  It was a good deal.   This year, Hasbro will be selling a $30 Wampa in a closed box with a fifth panel as part of its not-SDCC Pulse drop in September.   Luke is not included, but the deco has been updated in a few places - his paws are painted, like Kenner's original toy.  (The previous 6-inch wampa's claws were painted.)  The wampa dropped the blood.  Also, the colors around the eyes are a little different.  I daresay it's better, which is good, because it's $30.

The figure is about as nicely articulated as a lot of the other 6-inch figures, and features no action mechanisms like the orignial's cord-powered arms.

Not SDCC: Star Wars The Clone Wars 501st Legion Pack from Hasbro

By Adam Pawlus — Monday, July 20, 2020

3784 With SDCC not happening, those great exclusives hd to go somewhere.  The Vintage Collection 3-packs have been a regular thing lately, with most of the figures eventually finding their way to single cards after being previewed in California.  We don't know which if any of the 501st Legion ARC Troopers 3 3/4-inch figure pack will be released individually, but right now this trio is due on Hasbro Pulse in September for $49.99.

As far as we know this is the only 3 3/4-inch exclusive set for the summer convention season, but hey, I'm happy.  The Clone Wars debuted 12 years ago and we're getting figures for it.  Do you know what we got 12 years after the original Star Wars hit theaters?  Literally nothing.

Star Wars Figure of the Day: Day 2,708: Shadow Stormtrooper (The Black Series 6-Inch)

By Adam Pawlus — Thursday, July 16, 2020

GameStop's exclusive Shadow Stormtrooper (The Black Series 6-Inch)  shows Hasbro's continued interest in "Legends" Expanded Universe toys - which is good! We want more of those.  This one looks like they took one of the most iconic figures of all time, cast it in mostly clear plastic, and glittered it up a bit - and it's great.  If you stumble on one, go ahead and get it.  Read on!

Star Wars Figure of the Day: Day 2,707: Stormtrooper Commander (The Black Series 6-Inch)

By Adam Pawlus — Tuesday, July 14, 2020

In 2008, the idea of a new video game taking place before the original Star Wars complete with Stormtroopers and Darth Vader seemed like an unrealistic dream - and maybe that's why I like this Stormtrooper Commander (The Black Series 6-Inch) so much.  A GameStop exclusive, this blue-striped figure has excellent deco and holds up nicely, despite being based from a 2013 mold that's about 8 weeks from being replaced.  Read on!

Star Wars Figure of the Day: Day 2,706: Luke Skywalker (Snowspeeder, The Black Series 6-Inch)

By Adam Pawlus — Thursday, July 9, 2020

This Luke Skywalker (Snowspeeder, The Black Series 6-Inch) is a new mold - and it looks great!  Hasbro's engineering has improved a bunch, the colors are vibrant, the joints are good, the paint is great, and you should just have one.  Read on!

Star Wars Figure of the Day: Day 2,705: Lando Calrissian (The Black Series 6-Inch, 40th Anniversary Collection)

By Adam Pawlus — Tuesday, July 7, 2020

A little paint can go a long way!  The original release of this figure was great, but the printed portrait on Lando Calrissian (The Black Series 6-Inch, 40th Anniversary Collection) looks spectacular.  The improved eyes and mustache look so good, it's almost impossible to believe that it wasn't always meant to be this way.  The awkward torso joint remains.  Read on!

Star Wars Figure of the Day: Day 2,704: Rebel Soldier (Hoth, The Black Series 6-Inch, 40th Anniversary Collection)

By Adam Pawlus — Thursday, July 2, 2020

Check out the Rebel Soldier (Hoth, The Black Series 6-Inch, 40th Anniversary Collection) - he has two faces! The second one is a face plate you can store in the backpack.  It's really clever, and I'd like Hasbro to keep doing this sort of spare part storage on future products.  Read on!
