Hey kids, it's a Blue R8-Series Astromech Droid! This is another Star Tours Droid Factory figure. It's nice. Were it at Target, you'd merely buy it and enjoy it, rather than have it be the root of acute droid anxiety. I like it. Will you?
Gotta have my Pops! Davish Krail has a less recognizable name on the box, but it's a pilot and that's most of what you needed to know anyway. Interestingly, the figure differs from the build on the back of the box. Want to know the difference?
Hasbro improved a mold in a big way with Chewbacca last year. First released in 2011, the figure needed a tiny bit of work, which it got for the 2012 reissue. Better paint? Check. Improved articulation? Close enough.
This Jango Fett is the one you're most likely to find at an American toy store right now - and it's pretty unlikely you'll see his Geonosis Arena Battle set outside clearance aisles. He's based on a 2002 mold, and is also the newest version of the character, meaning this is the one that kids could end up with if they get the new-for-2013 Jango Fett Slave I vehicle. And he doesn't really fit. But I digress, the figure is interesting enough and the set (as a whole) is nice.
The vintage Emperor's Royal Guard has a great piece count with too much gear for any sensible person... unless you can find a way to army-build it, in which case it's pretty awesome. There's still a tiny bit of room for improvement here, but it's pretty amazing overall. Check this one out!
Sooooo Anakin Skywalker here is today's Figure of the Day! I just saw a case of these 2-packs at Target over the weekend, which is surprising as they were full price. Based on a 2000 mold with a new-for-2012 helmet, this uniquely decorated action figure is good at standing around and is less good at piloting vehicles. Should you buy the 2-pack? How about for Vader?
Check out this blue Clone Trooper from 2005. With sharp colors and lines plus animated styling, it's arguably more interesting than many of the other movie figures to be had these days... and nobody's looking to buy it, so you can probably get one cheap.
Sure you've seen this dome before. But the Green R2-Series Astromech Droid may have a new hat! This one has swell Yoda ears, based on a real hat you could buy in the early 1980s for some reason. It looks good here... and this green droid is different enough from previous releases to warrant your attention.
Ah, the Shock Trooper. This version is from last year and is based on a 2005 release, minus one part and with slightly sharper deco. Which part? And should you care? Is this keeping you in suspense?
So Clone Trooper Sinker was one of the last figures from 2012, exclusive to online accounts and, honestly, not a terrible set. It's still pretty cheap, although the price has been in flux wildly over the last four months. I like it.
Packaged with the delightfully odd Yoda Jedi Attack Fighter, this Super Battle Droid is, appropriately enough, another victim for Yoda's merciless rage. The figure is based on a 2002 deluxe mold which, coincidentally, was also the object of Yoda's scorn. Can this poor robot catch a break?
This Battle Droid is a pretty good one. It came in a 2012 Battle Pack and is based on a really good mold which Hasbro basically retired far too soon. It has ankle joints and the works, and generally came with too-big eyes. Ah well. Should you get one?
The Republic Trooper was one of those figures they made into online exclusives last year, meaning it was a tough figure to get. It's pretty expensive still. It came with a bunch of weapons and has pretty fantastic deco, so should you get it?
This Battle Droid was the best of breed in the big MTT box last year, and will no doubt make many returns in Saga Legends and elsewhere as the new, 5-jointed mold. It's pretty good. It's not amazing, but it's interesting to say the least. Want to know more?
One of the tougher figures to find from 2012 (and that's saying something), this Imperial Navy Trooper is a pretty good update to the uniquely helmeted action figure. Since it isn't Kenner Grey it's arguably deserving of at least one more repaint, should the stars align, but how is this release?
