Get a Life... Day Robe for Your Old Kenner Chewbacca

By Adam Pawlus — Sunday, December 24, 2023

Because I was lazy and didn't check the search box while writing my last figure review, Reader Todd wrote in to say: "I've had a custom retro life day chewie for quite awhile now! Check out the cape master: https://thecapemaster.com/collections/star-wars/products/6

I was lamenting that there should have been a Kenner-style figure, given the Holiday Special's unique vintage, and fans have once again done what the Lucas/Disney Industrial Complex have not.   The robe (no figure) is $10, and they also have some distinctive upgrades for the Tusken Raider robes and other replacement Star Wars capes.

New & Revised Custom Playsets from Orbitdyne

By Adam Pawlus — Monday, November 20, 2023

Friend of the site and of the guy who makes the set Seth Longmore makes a lot of really cool things - you can see them on his Etsy store. Two items of interest to you, and I think he just has one left of each right now, are a Deluxe Space Bar - Custom 3 3/4" Action Figure Playset (revised, with interior lighting, glow-in-the-dark parts, and a bandstand) as well as the nicely painted Sci Fi Adobe Hut A - Custom 3 3/4" Action Figure Playset Printable Scenery with opening lid and room for figures inside. I'd say "makes a great gift," but let's be honest, you'll want to keep these. I have one of his early Space Bar prototypes and love it.

He even takes some requests. (Well, I'm saying he does, let's see if he does.) Click here to see his playsets and some customized figures.

Custom Development 3-D Printed Spacebar - A Much Bigger Retro Cantina

By Adam Pawlus — Wednesday, January 11, 2023

Over at Orbitdyne, Making a Cantina - Part II shows a much larger, more robust set with booths, a full bar, glow-in-the-dark elements, and electronic internal lights. And a sticker door. It's incredible - and you should check it out.

Custom: 3-D Printed Spacebar Is Like the Cantina, But Not

By Adam Pawlus — Wednesday, January 4, 2023

Friend of the site Seth Longmire has been working on a 3 3/4-inch scale bar for action figures that's a mix of old 1970s colors and modern 2020 production techniques. You can read about it at Making a Cantina - Part 1 where the orange 3-D printed prototype can be seen.

I've seen a bit more of this item's progress and I can tell you it's pretty spectacular, and designed to fit in a DETOLF (so far.) You'll want to keep an eye on this one if you have a lot of properly scaled action figures. And if you don't, there have been some really good ones lately.

Boutros77's Star Wars Cantina Diorama on Flickr

By Adam Pawlus — Wednesday, January 22, 2014

Because I've never seen a link on another site that wasn't too good to repost, check out Boutros77's Cantina Diorama Gallery on Flickr.  Dozens of 3 3/4-inch scale shots of various figures in a diorama setting that's, frankly, too good for someone not to mass produce.  Be sure to check this one out.

Suck Pizza - Han Solo in Pizza Carbonite from the Sucklord

The artist/customizer/bootlegger/creative person known as The Sucklord posted Suck Pizza.  It looks a lot like Han Solo has been frozen inside a personal pizza, and will go on sale December 27 for $150.  Click here for his tweet.

Kid Ink Industries Releases RAD Droid Custom Star Wars C-3POs, More

By Adam Pawlus — Monday, April 15, 2013

Customizer and maker Kid Ink Industries posted a bunch of custom Star Wars figures at the RockfordArtDeli shop.  Three "RAD" droids (Roaming Assistance Droids) in unique colors were shown with absolutely gorgeous packaging that's even more retro than the real Kenner boxes.  A Sandtrooper with some skeletons is up as well, plus some other troopers and surprises.

Patton Oswalt-Commissioned Russ Meyer Star Wars Action Figures

By Adam Pawlus — Tuesday, April 9, 2013

A few years ago, a bunch of steampunk-influenced Star Wars action figures made the rounds online from Sillof's Workshop before you started to see gears, brass, monocles, and buckles on everything.  His latest creation was commissioned by the great Patton Oswalt (whose extended double album 222 and EP The Pennsylvania Macaroni Company may be two of comedy's finest achievements).   What is it?  Russ Meyer.  As in Faster, Empire! Strike! Strike! Action Figures.  Maybe you've seen Darla Vade and Stormy Go Go.  Want to see Lando, as a woman, with an afro?  Of course you do.  See her after the jump.
