Photos from the Hasbro Toy Fair 2014 are now up on our Image Bank featuring the latest from The Black Series, Saga Legends, Mission Series, and the new "Army Men" inspired Star Wars Command assortment. Click here to check out all the visual goodness and enjoy!
You saw the sketches, now see the prototype action figure! Nobody wants to make you wait for August, so the USA Today has this article: 'Star Wars Rebels' LEGOs, action figures coming soon which spits in the eye of the Danish toymaker's branding strategy. Click here to see Hasbro's Kanan and what LEGO has planned that's better than Ezra.
In 2005 we met the Chopper Droid, and a few years later we met Chopper the Clone Trooper. Now meet Chopper the Astromech Droid, new for this year's upcoming animated Star Wars Rebels. Based on Ralph McQuarrie's concept R2-D2, the little guy will also be an action figure later this year. Click here for more - he's hidden in the gallery.
Further proving that the "rumor" list wasn't a rumor list, Andrew's Toyz posted shots of Mission Series Utapau and Mission Series Bespin to Facebook. The good news for newcomers is that these are great-looking figures. For those of us who have been here, it seems Obi-Wan Kenobi may be the same as the single-carded figure, and Darth Vader appears to be a repack of last year's Mission Star Destroyer. On the bright side, there's a new Bespin Luke and General Grievous in here.
It's hiatus time again! But first - meet Merumeru, a Wookiee warrior that is a stunningly great improvement over previous Wookiee warriors. At first glance I thought it was a tweaked version of a previous figure, but I was wrong! It's really good. Go get one. Read on.
FOTD is going on break after this week, but we've still got Clone Commander Neyo and one more figure to go! He's not perfect, but it's a superior update for the character and as an added bonus, he included some TV Clone Wars detailing on his face. Even more surprising, Hasbro retooled the back of his armor to look distinctive and different from the other Clones. Read on!
Andrew's Toys has posted images for Saga Legends Darth Maul and Snowtrooper figures on Facebook. These will join previously announced Jedi Knight Luke Skywalker and another Clone Wars Obi-Wan Kenobi figure, previously announced by Hasbro. No date is known for these two, but since we have packaged shots I'd bank on "soon." Click here to see them.
It's new! There was a previous version a few years back, but Vizam the Nikto brings us another update from the 6-joint era! It's nice, it has a helmet, and it has another cool clamp-on cannon for the Sail Barge Hasbro will never make. Aren't you lucky? Read on!
Sith happens! Aside from a brief mention in Revenge of the Sith, the design, character, and general sense of Darth Plagueis can be described as being very very dark in his costuming and quite well constructed. Is he important? Well, that's up to you. Read on!
A re-retool, the new The Black Series Mace Windu takes the 30th Anniversary/Vintage Collection figure body, give him new arms and a new head, and presto - improved figure! The wrist movement is about perfect, and I dig the new elements a lot. Read on!
Let's finish up the latest wave of Mission Series with the new Chewbacca, which is a mixed bag. This is a good toy with a couple of fixable problems, should Hasbro decide to correct the fur color or add a single dab of glue to the bowcaster. Read on!
NEW! And old. Mission Series Han Solo is a pretty good toy, although you may not be crazy about him as a collectible. Hasbro mercifully dropped the dangling separate holster, which allows this figure to actually sit in your Millennium Falcon without much of a problem. Even though Chewie is kind of gnarly, get this set if you can. Read on!
Happy New Year! Let's look at the new R2-D2 that comes with C-3PO in the latest wave of Mission Series 2-packs that you can lie to yourself and say you're "skipping" when you probably haven't seen them for sale yet. This astromech droid is based on the R4-P44 Saga Legends mold, with far fewer paint applications. He's cute, but in all seriousness, he needs at least one or two more painted panels. Read on!
New sculpt! This C-3PO has 5 points of articulation, comes with R2-D2, and costs $10. It isn't shiny like the $10 Vintage figure from 2004, but it has a better sculpt and the same amount of articulation. I don't understand, either. Read on!
New deco and new arms! Obi-Wan Kenobi has been given a "realistic" figure based on his later Clone Wars appearances for Mission Series. He comes with the Darth Maul we looked at last week, and is arguably a better figure than his predecessor. Read on!
