View Full Version : Crazy Deal!

I went into a local Goodwill this past Saturday morning and I hit the jackpot! I am not actively collecting, but I still buy interesting toys for my son for when he gets a little older, particularly when there is a deal.
Anyway, there was this box that reams of paper come in, celophaned over the top and it contained what looked to be a pretty complete AT-TE. I bought it and found that aside from the 7 missles, this toy was complete, and in perfect shape. Also in the box was a complete AAT, a General Greivous figure, and five different clone wars TV clone trooper action figures.
How much was this haul?
A whopping $4!!!

Cool! I always loved finding good deals. We had a closeout store that was on the bad side of town and I used to get great hauls there. Nothing will beat the TRU coupon incident, though. This was way back when Hasbro put a $1 off coupon on all the figures to try to clear out old stock. Various stores were having bargain basement deals around the same time for the same purpose. Toys 'R Us put all Star Wars figures on sale for 99 cents. I'd seen the $1 off coupons the week before and knew they had tons of figures, including lots of army builders. I ran up there and loaded up an entire cart. They still had a good amount on the shelves, but I took everything that could possibly have been considered an army builder in even the most remote sense of the word. I was never in it to make a profit, either, so taking everything they had and selling them on Ebay wasn't something I'd have done. I got to the register and the cashier told me I couldn't use the coupons. They were valid manufacturer coupons and although she couldn't come up with a good reason, she kept insisting I couldn't use them. I finally got the manager to come over. He pulled some limit out of his rear and tried claiming that he got it from the ad. I had the ad handy and refuted his lie. We argued a bit and I finally said, "Look, you know me and you know the guys I hang around with. One phone call and they'll all be here within the hour to clean out everything you have left. If you let me use the coupons I won't tell them about it until tomorrow." He finally agreed and I walked out of there with well over 100 figures and a Diet Pepsi for a grand total of $1.06. I'd say that even beat the $10 AT-ATs and the $10 12" Dewback.

Ahh... the $10 AT-ATs. I got involved with Kay-Bee's corporate on that one. Store tried to deny me. I bought SO much stuff during that period. All of it is gone now. My fiancee thinks I have a lot of stuff stored for Logan, but she would have died had she seen it back then. LOL.

Aside from my vintage stuff and a few other odd items, we're down to about nothing. The Ebay proceeds helped, although I got back nowhere near what I put into it. If I'd have been an Ebay guru at the time, I could have made a ton. Oh, well.
Those are awesome deals! A Goodwill I was in a few months ago had an AT-TE, but it was missing some vital parts, hahaha.....
I think the biggest "deal" I've ever seen before was at a different Goodwill store. Someone must have donated their MOMC figure collection to the store, because they had around 100-150 figures in bins for a few dollars a piece. A good amount of them even had clamshells. It was when the Saga collection was still going, right after AOTC. I had everything I wanted at the time, but several harder to find figures were there, such as a few of the McQ. Stormtroopers, etc. In hindsight I wish I would have picked up a few of them...But they'd just be sitting in boxes right now either way.
I still have yet to sell all of my stuff. I ended up opening a large amount of the basic and deluxe figures, but I think I still have 7 or 8 plastic tubs fulls of MOMC stuff....

My MOMC stuff didn't bring in anywhere near what I thought it would. I had some stuff that did well, but not much went for that much more than their opened counterparts. Some of my boxed ships did well but the stuff that did best was the large lots of rare figures, like the bundle of Dark Troopers. It's a shame I didn't unload everything all at once. I auctioned off a portion of my boxed ships years before I auctioned off all the rest. I got about the same for those as I did the rest of the collection combined. I'm guessing that if I'd have auctioned it all off at that time, I probably would have taken in about $12k more than I did.
