I have mixed feelings on this figure because I don't think Stormtroopers and Royal Guards necessarily have to feature a removable helmet, but the alternate Crimson Guard outfit is smashing. The fact that he also can't hold his pike in the classic upright sentry stance is a little troubling. Otherwise a good figure.

They screwed this one up in so many ways. The cloak should have been the classic version with a slit up just one side (not both). His right hand should have been posed to hold the staff upright (or provide us an alternate sculpted hand for that purpose instead of all the Crimson Empire accessories). And to top it off, they used an alternate photo on the vintage card rather than the one Kenner used, which frustrates us vintage fans who collected these carded figures for the nostalgia callback to the Kenner cards. :(

Hey friends, BREAKING NEWS! The Royal Guard CAN hold his staff in the upright position! It looks great. Here is how to do it: the right arm must be straight (no bent elbow) and the right hand MUST be palm facing you. The staff has the balled end. It isn't a hard fit, you put the staff's base right into the grip, and you can pose the Royal Guard in his classic pose. It is even better than previous releases. You have to try it. Hasbro nailed it this time.

I'll take your suggestion Blue, and include in my review. Thanks!

I like this guy a lot, but I think there is too much fabric used, it's billowy and out of control. You can make it look good with futzing around, but not great. I think they should have made the robe "fitted" to the figure so it slid over him like the true vintage version. Hell, the CE version is for the action, the Guard version needs to stand tall and look menacing!
As a side note, who is the headsculpt supposed to be? Is it Jax? I thought he was clean-shaven for the most part...

Agree on the use of too much fabric.

I don't mind the removable helmet so much because of it's EU-ness (can alway opt to just leave it on), but what bugs me is how it is so loose and wants to fall off every time I pick the figure up. Like others have stated, the robes are big and billowy and require a lot of futzing to get to look right. One more thing I would have liked is to have the helmet painted a high-gloss red like his gloves and boots.
