Bio: The evolution of the galaxy's most powerful army is captured in these figures! The clone troopers fight for the Republic, to try and save the galaxy from chaos. But secret plans change their loyalties, and they help the evil forces of the Sith to take control! No longer known as clone troopers, they are now stormtroopers, the loyal soldiers of the Emperor, enforcing his harsh will throughout the galaxy! (Taken from the figure's box.)
Image: Adam's boxes. Thrilling, I know.
Commentary: Hasbro went clone crazy in 2005, and hasn't looked back. This Star Corps Clone Trooper is actually a new sculpt (or was in 2005) which was surprising given that they could've just used existing molds to make this figure. The kama (waistcoat/skirt) is a new sculpt, the arms were redone so that the band is on the left shoulder rather than the right, and he has lots of great parts and pieces. The figure is nicely articulated, essentially super-poseable, but one thing sucks about this figure-- the removable helmet doesn't fit too well. The figure's chin pokes out the bottom of the helmet, and short of spinning around the head it's a little tricky to avoid this. The figure is pretty slick, and has a decent stance with excellent dirt deco. There's not a lot of customization possible in this figure as it appears in the set, which is something they would introduce with a grey repaint of this figure shortly after the original release. Anyway, this is a good figure but not spectacular. If you don't have any Evolutions sets, this is a good one-- but if you have the clean, non-battle-damaged version from the battle pack (see below) you can skip the set if you just want this one figure.
Collector's Notes: This was the first "Star Corps" trooper seen in the movies that was made as a toy, soon to be followed by Commander Bly in late 2005. A Star Corps Battle Pack was released as a Target exclusive in 2007. The "Betrayal at Felucia" set featured a repaint of this figure (no dirt or damage and some other minor deco tweaks) as well as two new Star Corps troopers based on a different mold, Bly, and Aayla Secura. You can round out your "Star Corps" squad with the 2005 red Clone Commander figure if you'd like. For the sake of the FOTD column, we consider the 2005 Evolutions Star Corps Trooper and the 2007 Removable Helmet Battle Pack Star Corps Trooper as variants and not unique figures.
This mold was also used for several other figures, like the grey repaint ARC Trooper/Coruscant Clone in 2005, the 501st Trooper in the Battlefront set in 2007, Commander Thire, the Clone Combat Engineer, and the 7th Legion Trooper. It's worth noting that, without the pauldron, the helmets all fit without a problem.
