Commentary: One of the last figures to come out for Episode I, this Pit Droid 2-Pack was more than a little difficult to get. (I myself only saw them at Kmart for half price and at a used book store in Tucson, AZ a couple years after the fact.) The set includes one droid with a brown head (pictured) and another one with a cream head with a brown border (not pictured, reviewed separately in the future). The droids have "action poses" compared to previous release, and this guy has two arms at basically right angles. One is perpendicular to the body, the other is flush with it, so he's capable of holding some objects or looking like he's spazzing out. The legs are bent to imply motion and the left foot is bent to imply the droid has toe articulation (the toy doesn't, but the droid does.) Gifted with 5 points of articulation, it makes sense this figure is part of a set-- alone, the value just isn't there. The sculpt is pretty great, though, as the figure looks and feels more substantial than the uberthin droids of 1999. The deco is worth mentioning, too-- silver highlights at the joints and antenna bring the figure to life, and if they ever reissued the figure with some added grime I bet it'd be one of the most awesome things ever made. It also has Anakin's "A" symbol on it, so if you're wondering who it likely belongs to, there you go. As it stands, it's just merely very good and well worth owning if you're a droid fan.

Collector's Notes: Despite some minor level of fan ignorance which says the contrary, this figure (and his counterpart) are unique sculpts and have never been reissued. The Bonus Pit Droid figures are all unique sculpts, and while the poses are similar there's no mistaking these for being identical molds if you get them side-by-side. These Pit Droids came out alongside Sio Bibble and Padme with her grapple gun.( MORE IMAGES )
