Bio: Gamorrean guards are tough brutes used by the crime lord Jabba the Hutt as enforcers and bodyguards. They are large, heavy-set, dim-witted and aggressive, qualities which make them perfect for the Hutt's purposes. When the heroic Rebels infiltrate the Hutt's palace to free Han Solo, they have to deal with the Gamorreans who stand guard throughout the palace. (Taken from the figure's cardback.)

Image: Adam Pawlus' toy room.

Commentary: While just a repaint of the 1997 version, this Gamorrean Guard actually looks significantly better than his ancestor. While there's plenty of room to improve the sculpt, namely the toy pose versus the one you see in set photography, the deco is top-notch for its day. Notice the additional skin colors and the added deco in the fur. (It looks more subtle in person, trust me.) Because of this added attention to paint detail, Hasbro can get away reusing some sculpts again even years after its original debut, because if nothing else it looks good. With only six points of articulation, some fans may be unhappy with the fact the figure wasn't very poseable. But hey, it's not like most figures in 2004 were known for their abundance of articulation anyway. It's a great release, and I look forward to the day where we see a new sculpt with added articulation and that longer pole weapon from when Luke enters the palace and chokes these portly guys.

Collector's Notes: This particular deco for this figure was only available in 2004 and in this packaging. There are no known plans to bring him back but if I were a betting man I'd keep my eye open for new Battle Pack announcements. ( MORE IMAGES )
