What has Hasbro's Star Wars team learned about its devout collecting audience through these Q&A sessions (besides the fact that we really want playsets/display items and we like our armies)?
HASBRO: We have learned a great many things. One is that, as we suspected, passion for the EU runs deep and fans want us to look at videogame figures as well as core novel figures for future opportunities (we have listened). Another is the range of interest for which we have fielded questions about "what's next" for sub-lines such as Galactic Heroes and Titanium, indicating that these have really gained a following (interestingly, there hasn't been as much chatter about Star Wars Transformers or Unleashed 2", but I suspect it's because they are both relatively new and should find their voice as the lines continue). Of course, probably the biggest learning was there are a number of figures that fans wanted brought back for another chance at, which was very interesting to follow and led directly to the upcoming Saga Legends fans' choice line.
Hasbro, have you considered offering "Clone Squad" packs. These packs could have the new packaging format and contain: 1 regular SA Clone Trooper, 1 AT-RT Driver, 1 Airborne Trooper, and 1 Galactic Marine all with the similar battalion colors/markings (Shocktroopers, 501st, Felucia, etc.)? This would be very feasible as the figures have all been made already... no new molds. These packs would not have the specific commanders and would give everyone an easy way of building up their collection (or army). These would not stay on the shelves for long at all. This would also ensure that collectors would not have to collect 10+ of the same character (Vader, Palpatine - NON army builders) just to acquire the Clone Troopers they want. HASBRO: That is a very interesting suggestion and one that we have been looking at for the future. It is well-known now, for instance, that each of the clone battalions have specialists, similar to the way the U.S. military special forces work. Some of these are on-screen of course (such as the Utapau Battallion), but most are off-screen. We will probably do this sometime, but not before we get to some other battle pack ideas, which are ahead of it in the pipeline and extend the Jedi/battalion idea.
Are there any characters that you won't revisit, figures that you feel are as good as they're going to get and will only reissue as warranted? If so which ones? (From reader/forumite MisterPL)
HASBRO: Interesting question, MisterPL. While our design team can almost always find something they wish they could do again, there are definitely some figures that we feel have been executed with what we think is a perfect marriage of sculpt and articulation. The best examples might be what's happening in Vintage with Bossk or IG-88, or with any of the Cantina denizens (Mii'yoom Onith and Elis Helrot) from the past couple of years. It's safe to say that those sculpts really nail the characters and and articulation is where it needs to be for those characters. Re-releases are always possible, especially with characters as popular as Bossk and IG-88, but it's unlikely we'll ever re-do them.
