Bio: Part of the entourage accompanying Jabba the Hutt to the Pit of Carkoon to watch the execution of Han Solo, the infamous bounty hunter Boba Fett leaps into battle to save his life after Jabba's sail barge is attacked by Han's rescuers. (Taken from the figure's cardback.)

Commentary: Nothing makes fans jump for glee more than Boba Fett. No matter how mundane-- or backwards-- each figure released ends up being, fans will rush out to the store and buy at least one of each version. This Boba was notable for a variety of reasons. First, it had an action feature-- while there was a firing backpack before, this is the first time the figure itself had some sort of limb-related functionality. The quick-draw attack works fairly well, and it was triggered by the figure's rocket. The rocket, I should add, doesn't blend in too well with the sculpt, nor does it really resemble the one in the movie. The figure has a unique flame accessory, and this acts as a sort of display base that helps give the figure a little more life than we're used to. Also, the figure has exceptional articulation for its time-- the right leg has two knee joints, for example, but his arms are posed to be pretty worthless for any function other than firing on Rebels. Still, it's decent.

As far as deco goes, it's a little more stylized (or cartoony) than other releases. The blue suit is fairly rich, as are the reds, golds, and greens found on his armor. The jetpack is fairly colorful as well, and the body sculpt is slightly lacking in texture. Hasbro would go on to release a far better sculpt in 2004, but for its time this is a pretty good figure. The best thing about it is its unique accessories, and the fact that it can be plugged into a flame base puts it on par with the larger Unleashed figures while helping to push the envelope as both a display piece and an action figure with actual "action." It's good, you should get one.

Collector's Notes: This figure had quite a few variants. The figure itself shipped with a blue (shown) or greenish tinted jumpsuit. It was sold on a 2003 "orange burst" blue Saga card, a "gold stripe" blue Saga card, and the 2004 Original Trilogy Collection card. It was also retooled and redecorated in 2006. ( MORE IMAGES )
