Bio: Polis Massans are known throughout the galaxy for their extraordinary medical skills. They are compassionate and value freedom highly. Obi-Wan turns to this gifted species in a desperate attempt to save the life of a friend. (Taken from the figure's cardback.)

Image: Adam Pawlus' toy room. This one was a real pain to shoot, as you can tell, I basically gave up.

Commentary: With no dialogue and little real presence, one can be a little surprised that Hasbro even made the Polis Massan figure. In the movie they came in a number of shapes and sizes, but Hasbro only immortalized this thin little guy. There are ones with big fat necks (or hoods, who knows) and slightly different outfits, but alas, this is it. His articulation is pretty good, with 12 points on a fairly thin frame. Articulation is good, the design is pretty alien (as Star Wars goes), and the detail is certainly excellent. I love the weird, long fingers and the eerie face with no features beyond a pair of tiny eyes. As a design, it's neat, and as a figure, it works fairly well. He can sit. He can stand. His plastic isn't so thin that he'll bend over if left on a shelf. This is a figure that overall, shows that Hasbro has learned quite a bit in recent years and can absolutely deliver on an otherwise gangly alien figure.

When it comes to the accessories, I'm less enthralled. He has a little accessory tool that can be carried in his hand or mounted on his shoulder. It seems to stay in his hand well enough, but the shoulder mount didn't seem to work too well for me as it kept popping off. The headset is fairly loose and frequently slides off, which is probably a result of the materials used to make it. The blaster, much like the tool, fits in his hand with no real problems. It will fall out of the holster if jostled, or at least, it will on mine. I absolutely love the look of this figure and its extras, and the Mustafar base repainted as the Polis Massa asteroid is freaking sweet. Unfortunately, collectively, it leaves something to be desired. If you're one to lose accessories, be very careful if you own and open this one.

Collector's Notes: While never reissued, there's a fun little story about this figure. In 2005, Hasbro was at Star Wars Celebration III (a fan convention) taking down names of collectors who would like to buy the entire collection of figures direct. The idea was you'd get the entire run plus extras of some random "army builders" which included Clones, Wookiees, Neimoidians, and this little guy. Nobody actually was given the chance to buy the set, but it's neat to think that Hasbro saw this guy as warranting an army. ( MORE IMAGES )
