Hasbro Presentation Cliff Notes

Here are our Cliff Notes from Hasbro's live Toy Fair presentation. We may have missed a bullet point or two, but we hope we've covered most of the bases. What's coming up this year? Here we go...

The Legacy Collection (a new SKU for Basic Figures as we know them) will be on shelves 7/26/08. The Legacy Collection cardback features a Stormtrooper helmet in the same style as the Clone Trooper cardback previously shown for The Clone Wars Collection. The Legacy Collection kicks off on 7/26/08 with Han Solo (Sand Gear); Jedi Knight Luke Skywalker (Sand Shawl); Chewbacca (Bandaged Wounds); Ewoks Leektar and Nippet (Wokling); Gargan (Jabba's Dancer); Ak-Rev (Gong); and Darth Vader (3-Part Removable Helmet).

The Clone Wars Collection will feature figures in the CG animated style with a focus on kid "fun" with collector aesthetics. There will be 23 figures drawn, er, generated from The Clone Wars in 2008. Vehicles are made in the realistic style which meshes perfectly with the CG look of the animation. The mail-away Captain Rex figure (4 POPs and $6.99 S&H) has a clean deco and removable helmet, comes on a basic-style cardback, but the back of the card has a fold down "pop up" mini-diorama.

The V-19 Torrent Fighter and the Spider Droid will be on-shelves on 7/26/08.  The AT-TE features six articulated legs and tons of playability. It will be out in time for the holiday shopping season.

There will be 30 Basic Figures (i.e. movie and existing canon) in 2008. The Droid Factory line will kick off with two-packs exclusive to Wal*Mart stores on/around 7/1/08 with Darth Vader and K-3PX; Plo Koon and R4-D5; Luke Skywalker with R2-D2 (Battle Damaged); and Kit Fisto with R4-H5. After that each wave of The Droid Factory Basic Figures will be packaged with pieces to build figures like R7-Z0; R4-D6; R7-T1; and R4-J1.

The Comic Book 2-Packs line will feature 15 new sets between late spring and fall 2008. (Check out our photo coverage to see what's in store.) Noteworthy features include Durge from the Asajj Ventress and Durge 2-Pack donning a removable helmet.

The Evolutions segment features Rebel Pilots Ten Nunb; female pilot Dorovio Bold; and Wes Janson (Snowspeeder). Evolutions Padme Amidala grouping features Queen Amidala (Post Senate); Senator Amidala (Geonosis Factory); Padme Skywalker (Night Gown).

Galactic Heroes is beefing up its ranks with two new vehicles. Darth Vader's TIE Advanced and a Obi-Wan Kenobi's Jedi Starfighter (Aether Sprite Class) will be heading to retail in 2008. The Cinema Scene segment will continue with new sets based on Mos Eisley and the Geonosian Arena (featuring new beasts including the Dewback and the Nexu, respectively). Upcoming sets will feature a new Rancor and an AT-RTWal*Mart will exclusively sell a re-issued Milennium Falcon set for our little friends. Target will be featuring a new Cinema Scene based on Mustafar.

On the exclusives front Target will feature Aayla Secura's Jedi Starfighter (dropping on 3/23); a Force Unleashed Battle Pack sporting two Stormtroopers, two new Wookiee Commando figures, and Darth Vader. The all-new Rancor with Beast Rider is a Target exclusive (also in March). The latest batch of Order 66 combos will drop on 4/15/08.

Wal*Mart will have an exclusive Battle Pack featuring Han Solo (Hoth) in variants of blue and brown coats with his hood up; R-3PO featuring the new knee feature seen on last year's C-3PO (Ewok Deity). The king of the big boxers will drop an exclusive A-Wing with Arvel Crynd on 7/26/08.

Also a very important exclusive, Comic Con 2008 in San Diego will feature Darth Vader's conversation with the Holographic Emperor (a big floating head). The set will feature a special base with lights and sound. Breathtaking news!

Now, notably absent, but mentioned in a Hasbro PR handout is a Battle Pack set called Battle at B'Omarr Monastery.

2008 is going to be a massive year.
