Commentary: Some people say repaints are unworthy of being on the same planet on which they live-- these people probably aren't LEGO fans. The Clone V-Wing Pilot shares the same body mold as nearly every LEGO figure for over 25 years. Of course, to keep things interesting, these figures have become more sophisticated over the years. Back in the 1980s, figures generally were unpainted except for maybe the front of the torso. This figure not only has paint on his chest, but also his back. While you probably won't see all the back that much, or at all, it's nice to see Hasbro add these extra details. The figure's articulation-- as if you didn't already know-- is pretty good, and better than the original Kenner line. Each figure is articulated at the shoulders, hips, wrists, and neck. The helmet is technically removable, but the head underneath is a black piece with no paint on it. But back to the helmet-- it's pretty slick. It's the same mold used for the other Revenge of the Sith Clones, but a little paint goes a long way. Unlike Hasbro's Clone Pilot, this one actually has a fully enclosed helmet for its Clones, which some people dig while others... not so much.

The set itself isn't exactly held in high regard, but I like it for three reasons: 1, you get a figure with it. 2, it's cheap. And 3, it's a decent set when you break down the cost-per-piece, which I've basically decided is $0.10 per piece. (Your mileage may vary, but when I was binging on LEGO in college, that was the price point I was looking for.) The set doesn't include any weapons for the figure, but it does have a fancy ship for your amusement. It isn't huge, but it's decent enough to warrant its asking price. There's a lot of wing pieces, so yeah, ten bucks well sport.

Collector's Notes: I think this set is out of production, as I haven't seen it in my neck of the woods for a while. It's dirt cheap on eBay still-- $10, give or take, generally. LEGO.com no longer stocks it.
