Commentary: For some reason, Hasbro really loves making new versions of Chewbacca from Hoth. I can see why-- take any Chewbacca, add some white "snow," and presto-- you now have a scene-specific figure from The Empire Strikes Back. In this case, Hasbro took the basic figure from the 2002 line ("Cloud City") and changed the accessories, added some paint, and it looks like Chewie has been getting in to the White-Out. The figure is a good one, as it has 9 points of articulation, a great angry expression on his face, and a wonderful weapon. With a mere 9 joints, the figure is able to assume a variety of poses, but isn't as nicely articulated as the late 2006 version of Hoth Chewbacca. This one has good face paint, nice blue eyes, and it's really just a very nice release. The only black mark against it is that Hasbro has since done a version based on the 2004 Vintage mold which is a heck of a lot better in the articulation department, with slightly better fur sculpting and hidden arm joints. (Here, you can sort of see the pins.) It's a nice figure showing the evolution of the character as a product from Hasbro, but today, despite the fact that it's a great toy, it pales in comparison only slightly to the aforementioned more recent release. (Which, of course, we'll be looking at in the near future.)

Collector's Notes: This is Snow Chewie #2. #1, in 1998, was a retool with clumps in his fur. #2 is this one. #3 was based on the Vintage mold. This one looks really nice, an for my money, this is the one I prefer for my dioramas. This figure will go great with that Hoth Ultimate Battles Battle Pack you should have just bought from Target. Plus, there's no costume overlap. [ MORE IMAGES ]
