Q&A: Star Wars Rarities Returning Regularly and/or Books

By Adam Pawlus — Sunday, July 13, 2025

1. I am rewatching Andor again and again soaking in the details. Not a toy question per se but do you know if Hasbro plans a Andor encyclopedia or even better a book on the costumes from the show or even the Disney streaming series as was published for the prequels?

The wardrobe and costumes are incredible and again would be a great source for customizers.

Yes! The Art of Star Wars: Andor is due in March 2026. Sometimes DK guides or art books get announced and are swept under the rug, but this one is supposedly on the way.

Far less complete (but possibly at a book store near you), Star Wars Dawn of Rebellion The Visual Guide is out now and may be on sale. That's a sponsored link to Amazon, for which we may get a nickel if you click and buy something. I'm guessing the 2026 art book might have a focus on costumes and such, but you never know - sometimes art books show props, sometimes art books show art.

2. What do we think about the Haslab exclusive Ghostbusters Proton Pack getting a "just different enough to make you mad" reissue

Do we think that means we'll see deco tweaked versions of Haslabs somehow making their way to retail? And if so which ones?
--Philip

I'm OK with it, especially for this kind of an item. Depending on what you mean by "retail" I assume none of these will ever show up in a store due to the box size.

I'm a little surprised it's the same price (given inflation), and in Hasbro's position I would probably rerun it every few years. This is an item that is probably going to have constant new demand on it, if they wanted to do it in blue as The Real Ghostbusters I assume there would be plenty of interest.

When it comes to trying to replicate a screen-used prop, I think it's a different set of standards than an action figure when it comes to "just different enough to make you mad." Props change from movie to movie, so adding (or removing) grime or other details in order to open an item up for more business makes some degree of sense. If Hasbro rereleased the crowdfunded pack with no changes, I think people would be much more upset. This is, at least, a different item with some different features. There's no slime, there's no display stand, I think the USB charging may be new, there was a whole bunch of stretch goal stuff that you won't get with the 2025/2026 edition.

I don't know that there's enough interest to bring back any of the HasLab Star Wars: The Vintage Collection ships for another go - the minimum factory runs and all - mostly because I don't know that new fans are being minted quickly enough. When it comes to movie props, that's generally a group that grows with new costumers every year. There probably aren't enough people with $500-$700 and enough space for a Barge who didn't buy it before. I wouldn't mind at all if Hasbro tried some alternate versions of these toys, though. If we got a "Commander Class" Unicron, or a G1-style toy Unicron, that could be fun and new. A Kenner-style Barge that was maybe half the size and without the dirt paint could also be an interesting release.

As a fan I'm of the mindset toy companies should make as many units as the market wants. Even if there's a crowdfund, I personally have no problems with Hasbro making more if they think the customer base is there. Someone else getting a toy doesn't make mine any less cool. With the caveat, of course, that a new version should be identical or less cool. If they remade the Barge and threw in a few extra figures, I'd be pretty mad about that - but if they left it the same or took out Yak Face, fine, whatever. People can still get a Yak Face figure for cheap and if they miss out on the package variant, that's no big deal.

FIN

I'm probably as surprised to be here as anybody - our host broke something on the server and said "no we didn't," resulting in my being unable to do anything with the site for a couple of weeks. And then they just fixed it, or rebooted the server, most likely. And here we are! Back and normal, for now.

SDCC is coming up. The big question on everybody's lips is "will we get a new HasLab?" and my guess would be "probably now or never." Crowdfunding is increasingly risky given the ongoing tariff situation - if you can't know what the tariffs are, it's hard to price things. Tariffs on toys were effectively 0% for quite some time, and now? Not. If Hasbro doesn't show (or tease) something at SDCC, I wouldn't expect something this year.

There should be more stuff for The Vintage Collection and The Retro Collection. Epic World of Action is more of an unknown, with the new stuff getting marked down and not a lot of direction to drive sales. The Retro Collection similarly has nothing on deck that I know of, but now would be a really good time to tease something for late 2025 or early 2026.

Also of interest, George Lucas is going to be there. So is Svengoolie! I'm not going to be there this year, and in case anyone was asking Entertainment Earth will not be exhibiting either. (But people will be on the floor.) But if you go see George or Sven, let me know how it is and know I am jealous/rooting for you to get a good seat.

If you haven't yet gotten your The Retro Collection 6-pack from Target, it's always a good time.  Weirdly I've seen it on-shelf only once until Sunday night - where one random out-of-the-way Target had six boxes on shelf.  Who knew?  Anyway, get it while you can.
