Figure of the Day

Star Wars Figure of the Day: Day 1,941

By Adam Pawlus — Wednesday, November 21, 2012

This version of Princess Leia came out earlier in the year, and she's a neat one.  A mix of the 2009 Slave figure with new parts (like goggles), this is a pretty nice design and comes from one of the many deleted scenes on the 2011 Blu-Ray collection.  Should you get her?

Pretty closely scaled to figures, the Naboo Nuna is also known as the intergalactic equivalent of our Thankgiving bird.  The "Swamp Turkey" comes from a Battle Bags set from 1999, which brought us about 16 unarticulated PVC figures from The Phantom Menace which are, frankly, awesome.

Awwww yeah!  R2-D2 made from build-a-droid bits!  Well, one of two, but this one is nifty because it has a Naboo Droid Harness plus a nifty blue light on his dome, which is unusual.  He looks great!  Should you care?

It's the new Aayla Secura!  This is a great upgrade for a figure most of us thought was pretty good - the new 2012 edition has amazing articulation, more gear, and an improved paint job.  The 2005 one was already really good, so you'll want to see what's on the table this time around.

Love it or hate it, it's hard to deny that this Darth Maul has the best portrait on any version of the character at this scale.  It's awesome.  The articulation is a little light, but the figure looks better and stands more easily than his siblings.  Can we call this one a "win"?

Here's a neat repaint from a Battle Pack earlier this year.  Clone Trooper Hardcase is a new-ish figure in that he's a new character based on a familiar mold, and arguably worth the price of admission.  Did you get yours yet?

The Silver and Red Droid Factory R2-Series Astromech Droid  is very much like R2-M5, but it's a little bit more orange and has a hole in his head for the purposes of hats.  This is a good reason to buy a figure.  Hats = better.  This one is shown in Mickey Mouse ears, but... geez, if that isn't an apt metaphor for the  last few weeks I don't know what is.

Sith happens! Hahahaha  kill me.  This Darth Vader is showing up in greater numbers after debuting as a swell Comic-Con 2012 International exclusive.  It's basically the Vintage figure with some new  bits.  Is it worth the $10?

Star Wars Figure of the Day: Day 1,933

Based on the last season of the original Clone Wars cartoon, this Anakin Skywalker figure is tarted up with leech secretions and looks pretty dang great!  Sure, we got a "realistic" version later but this is where the unique look came from.  You want one, right?

So Adi Gallia got her last new figure around 2004, which was itself a retool of the 1999 figure, which wasn't that great in the first place.  She can sit, and a Stass Allie figure was released at the same time that is, for all intents and purposes, the same dang figure.  It's part of the Jedi High Council set, so fans elevate her higher than the figure deserves, and diorama display people will probably want this one too.

This R2-D2 is pretty slick, and has been released twice so far... each time as an exclusive.  The uniquely sculpted figure has blown-open panels and exposed wiring, effectively making this a "dead" R2-D2.  It's wonderful.

Ahhh this is a good one.  Thanks to my pal Shannon for helping me to get the Black R6 Series Astromech Droid, one of my favorites from the new Droid Factory at Disney Hollywood Studios Orlando.  Is it worth tracking down?

Here's an interesting one which shares a name with a popular menu item at a place like going for lunch.  Shu Mai is a bright, colorful figure with excellent detail, limited articulation, and she's part of a pretty decent gift set that's actually pretty cheap these days.

Did you find the last Clone Wars figure of 2012 yet?  It came out a few months ago.  It's a weak year.  Commander Fox is basically a redeco mishmash of other figures, and the deco ain't perfect.  It's neat, though.  The toy arguably looks better than the TV show design.  Oh, and there's a video too.

The early animated Clone Wars figures are superb, underrated gems of the collectible toy world.  They're more statues than action figures, but are cheap and pretty gorgeous.  And my stats say you won't read about General Grievous or the other figures in this line... why not?  Don't you like nice things?  You really ought to check these out.
