One of the tougher figures to find from 2012 (and that's saying something), this Imperial Navy Trooper is a pretty good update to the uniquely helmeted action figure. Since it isn't Kenner Grey it's arguably deserving of at least one more repaint, should the stars align, but how is this release?
We ran this Green R5-Series Astromech Droid through the total perspective vortex and it seems to have come out just fine. This is a robot who really knows his place in the Universe, and that place is as a theme park exclusive that you're probably sick of reading about by now. (This is just a hunch.)
Under-collected, underappreciated, and cheap, figures like this Ikopi are a cheap thrill. The little creatures have no articulation but are the only representations of numerous wildlife in plastic. If you're like me and you loved the designs of The Phantom Menace a great deal, you'll find a lot to like in this small line of little animal figures.
Check out Obi-Wan Kenobi from last year's MTT. (Which was selling on Amazon for $49! Not bad for a big vehicle.) It's a mix of parts from older figures, but isn't necessarily new enough to buy. The whole package is amazing, but just Obi-Wan?
I just got back from New York, where snow, being thrown out of a cab, and posting FOTD #2,000 didn't keep me down! So today you get Nien Nunb, who may be available cheaply online right now. You'll have to check.
Welcome to FOTD #2,000! If you told me back in 2006 that I'd still be writing this column today, I would probably have told you to slap me. But we're all still here, and we're looking at Jocasta Nu because why the heck not. This online exclusive is new-ish and has a ton of gear.
Time marches on and Jar Jar Binks is, appropriately, our 1,999th entry of Figure of the Day. He has more articulation than any other 3 3/4-inch scale version of the character, but the sculpt may not be as fun. Or is it?
Wait, stop! Don't skip this one yet! This Yellow R7-Series Astromech Droid is not 2008's R7-Z0. Nope, it's actually yellower and has a different pattern on the dome. It's cool! Really! Oh, and it's at Disney Hollywood Studios. So... maybe you can get one.
Check out Teemto Pagalies. Not the fancy one for five bucks with all the droid stuff, but the 2012 gift set one likely on clearance at a Toy R Us near you. Why? Well, it's got a flag... and goggles that are kinda different. The paint job isn't bad.
Let's look at Clone Commander Colt, the only individually-packaged animated-style Phase II-style ARC Trooper in the entire line. Why is this? I have no idea. I assume Hasbro must hate you all, because these guys are crazy popular and the mold has been painted 4 times so far with no new releases in the last year and change. He's totally cool and totally worth owning.
While I'm nursing unrelated toy-related disappointment, why not go look at ARC Trooper Blitz? He's part of a great Battle Pack which you may actually be able to find on the cheap if you know where to look. It's worth it. He's cool, man.
Let's look at the Plo Koon figure from last year's nifty Ultimate Gift Set. As the least-nifty part of that set, this one may have escaped your attention. Is it possible there's some special detail making this an ignored gem?
Today let's look at the slick Yellow R8-Series Astromech Droid which feels more like it came from the 1970s or 1980s than a lot of the more recent designs. With no big "eye" it's a little unsettling at first, but it makes good use of the R7 torso to bring about a new, exclusive, and hard-to-find experience.
Let's talk about Clone Trooper Mixer, a dark blue box Toys R Us exclusive which may well be at a store near you still. One of two troopers, this one was packaged with a killer droid and for the price wasn't at all bad. (Especially at 2012-2013 price points.) Should you track it down?
It's Lumat! Last made in 1984, this was, at the time, what I thought to be one of the last figures Kenner did (POTF didn't hit big in my neighborhood.) Armed with a spear, bow, arrows, and hood, this is a nice figure with a lot of gear. Did you get yours? It's time to buy!
