Figure of the Day

Star Wars Figure of the Day: Day 2,109: R2-D2 (Star Wars Rebels Mission Series)

By Adam Pawlus — Friday, November 7, 2014

Do you need the Rebels version of R2-D2?  No.  It's a brand-new sculpt and actually looks a lot like the movie version, but it's so gosh darned close that you wouldn't miss it if you missed it.   Click here to read on and see more, including comparisons with the recent movie Mission Series version.

Star Wars Figure of the Day: Day 2,108: Stormtrooper (Star Wars Rebels Mission Series)

By Adam Pawlus — Thursday, November 6, 2014

Today in Figure of the Day: Star Wars Rebels Stormtrooper! It's a 5-jointed, exaggerated, 3 3/4-inch action figure with a gun.  It's pretty neat - I saw this wave at Target over lunch today, so I can say they're making the rounds right now, which I didn't see prior to writing and posting all these reviews.  That's what I get. Anyway, read on!

Star Wars Figure of the Day: Day 2,107: C-3PO (Star Wars Rebels Mission Series)

By Adam Pawlus — Wednesday, November 5, 2014

Here's another neat one - C-3PO from Star Wars Rebels is today's Figure of the Day!  It hits most of the buttons for being a good toy (it can sit!), with a little more attention needed on the face paint.  I still like it - will you?  Read on!

Star Wars Figure of the Day: Day 2,106: R5-G19 (The Black Series 2014)

By Adam Pawlus — Tuesday, November 4, 2014

Figure of the Day returns with R5-G19!  The venerable build-a-droid R5 mold returns and while we've had many robots over the last few years, this is a new one from Return of the Jedi.  The robot on the back of the package is a different design than the actual figure, so it's pretty exciting to see another possible figure in the future, maybe, who knows.  Want to know more?  Read on!

Star Wars Figure of the Day: Day 2,105: Biker Scout (The Black Series 6-Inch)

By Adam Pawlus — Friday, October 17, 2014

The 6-inch Biker Scout from Hasbro is very OK.   It's not great.  It's actually on the border of good.  Smudges on the chest seem unnecessary, the gun is too small and the grip splits easily, and on the two I was examining close-up the visors on the helmet were both off-center in different directions.   The mold is OK, the bike is good, but the execution needs some help. Read on!

Star Wars Figure of the Day: Day 2,104: Boba Fett Concept Armor (The Black Series 6-Inch)

By Adam Pawlus — Thursday, October 16, 2014

Since the idea was introduced to fans, the idea of a Walgreens-exclusive Boba Fett Concept Armor brought about much anxiety to fans.  Would he be made in big enough numbers to cover all 5,000 locations? Would the pre-sale online cover people?  Would you have to drive around with a bunch of sick people sneezing on you while you hunt toys because of your crippling toy addiction?  Let's just look at the figure - he's pretty good.  Read on!

Star Wars Figure of the Day: Day 2,103: Luke Skywalker Jedi Knight (The Black Series 6-Inch)

By Adam Pawlus — Wednesday, October 15, 2014

The 6-inch Luke Skywalker in his Jedi gear may not be perfect, but it's one of my favorites.  It does not exceed its mandate, but it works - hands hold weapons. Belt fits.  Lightsaber hangs on hook.  Figure stands, sits.  It's rare that a figure can do pretty much anything you expect it to and not have severe balance issues - his joints are nice and tight.  I've been talking all day so I'm exhausted.  Read on!

Star Wars Figure of the Day: Day 2,102: Shadow Scout (The Black Series 6-Inch)

By Adam Pawlus — Tuesday, October 14, 2014

Check out the Shadow Scout in today's Figure of the Day! It's similar to some 3 3/4-inch figures, but it's 6-inches tall.  The blaster, however, is basically the same size for some reason.  Read on for more!

Star Wars Figure of the Day: Day 2,101: Shadow Stormtrooper Commander (The Black Series 6-Inch)

By Adam Pawlus — Monday, October 13, 2014

I got this swell Shadow Stormtrooper Commander 6-inch action figure in the mail over the weekend, and it is indeed swell.  Essentially a black, backpack-free Sandtrooper, it's basically exactly what you would want in such a thing.  3 guns cast in dark grey. Pauldron.   Glossy helmet lenses.  Read on!

Star Wars Figure of the Day: Day 2,100: Ezra Bridger (Star Wars Rebels Mission Series The Ghost)

By Adam Pawlus — Wednesday, September 17, 2014

Because we're well past the point where making "Better than Ezra" jokes are funny, let's just say that Hasbro's Ezra Bridger turned out quite nicely.  There's a lot of deco and fun details on a figure with only 5 points of articulation.  There's also no gun, no lightsaber, not a single luxury.  Like Robinson Crusoe, it's just a helmet.  Read on!

Star Wars Figure of the Day: Day 2,099: Kanan Jarrus (Star Wars Rebels Mission Series The Ghost)

By Adam Pawlus — Tuesday, September 16, 2014

Unless there are running changes we don't know about, there should be three versions of this Kanan Jarrus in circulation before Thanksgiving.  One is in the Toys R Us exclusive 3-pack, another is packaged with the Phantom at Target, and the third is individually carded in the Saga Legends assortment.  It's a nice figure - good sculpt, clean deco, and it stands nicely too.  Read on!

Star Wars Figure of the Day: Day 2,098: Obi-Wan Kenobi (Star Wars Rebels Secret Exclusive Figure 2014)

By Adam Pawlus — Monday, September 15, 2014

For the first time in years, I'm actually really pleased with a holographic figure!   Obi-Wan Kenobi is exclusive to Toys R Us and started showing up in my neck of the woods over the weekend.  The set has 3 figures and is $19.99, and is arguably worth the asking price.   He has one point of articulation - and I'm scratching my head to name another full-size 3 3/4-inch humanoid Star Wars figure with only one joint - with a really wonderful sculpt and pose. And he's hollow.  Read on!

Star Wars Figure of the Day: Day 2,097: Ree-Yees (The Black Series 2014)

By Adam Pawlus — Thursday, August 21, 2014

He's good!  Ree-Yees is Hasbro's finest work in the field of Gran development.  If you need a figure to stand on a Sail Barge or Jabba's Throne Room diorama, there is none better.  I assume most readers of this site are not concerned about figures sitting, because trying to make him sit will cause his torso to blow open.  (It's easily remedied, like the ball-joint head on most figure necks.) Due to how this figure is likely to perform in your life, this is probably going to have to be rounded up to acceptable as there are no real vehicles for him right now.  Is this figure the go-to Ree-Yees you've been waiting for? Yes.  But read on anyway for more pictures!

Star Wars Figure of the Day: Day 2,096: Jabba's Skiff Guard (The Black Series 2014)

By Adam Pawlus — Wednesday, August 20, 2014

It's Jabba's Skiff Guard!  Or Brock Starsher, or Sgt. Doallyn, or whatever - the important thing is that this guy, with this helmet, is now a thing you can actually own.  He looks like his cousins from The Legacy Collection and sports 2 neat accessories.  Is he exceptional? No.  Does it matter? Also no - he's a legit new character, without question, and as such a required addition to your toy shelves.  Read on!

Star Wars Figure of the Day: Day 2,095: Wedge Antilles (The Black Series 2014)

By Adam Pawlus — Tuesday, August 19, 2014

Check out the new Wedge Antilles, Hoth-style.  It's good!  He has a helmet and two guns.  It's great - and I think you'll enjoy the new head sculpt.  Read on!
