Sony to Take Over Disney's Physical Media Business

By Adam Pawlus — Tuesday, February 20, 2024

Via Variety: Disney Strikes Deal for Sony to Take Over Its DVD, Blu-ray Disc Business. From TFA: " As part of the deal, Sony will market, sell and distribute all Disney’s new releases and catalog titles on physical media to consumers through retailers and distributors in the U.S. and Canada. Disney will continue to manage its own digital media, like premium video-on-demand."

Some stores like FYE, Barnes & Noble, Target, and Walmart still carry some physical media while Best Buy retail stores are in the process of phasing it out. In many markets, local media and record shops might be an even better bet as the once-ubiquitous 5-inch digital versatile disc is increasingly a niche product, albeit one that has enjoyed a much longer and arguably stronger life than VHS.

Today's the day!  Without too much fuss, Target's exclusive AT-ACT Driver has joined the Rogue One: A Star Wars Story DVD and Blu-Ray at retail today.   It's worth noting Target has an exclusive deluxe Blu-Ray set with bonus content as well, and the price may vary. The tag said $29.99 but it rang up $27.99.  Go figure.

Star Wars Blu-Ray Complete Saga $59.99 at Amazon

By Adam Pawlus — Thursday, January 2, 2014

Amazon has the 9-disc, 6-movie Star Wars: The Complete Saga (Episodes I-VI) Blu-Ray set for $59.99, which is about the lowest that I've seen it.  The main reason for picking it up are the deleted scenes - but don't throw out your DVDs, because the DVD special features and deleted scenes differ from here and the DVDs you bought a few years ago.

I assume you've bought it by now.

Clone Wars Season 5 Blu-Ray and DVD: Coming Soon

By Adam Pawlus — Saturday, August 3, 2013

It's coming! Season 5 of The Clone Wars will be out on DVD and Blu-Ray.  Not only will it be sold in a set by itself, but a better, much cheaper Blu-Ray of all 5 seasons is coming to penalize those of us that bought the sets along the way.

Walmart Exclusive Star Wars Markdowns: YMMV

By Adam Pawlus — Monday, December 26, 2011

Tis the season for randomly marked-down products!  Walmart has marked down their Ultimate Gift Sets for Star Wars as well as Transformers and Beyblade, but prices vary by store-- the $30 sets were as little as $15 in my neighborhood, which is a steal given you get 5 figures in the set.

Star Wars Trilogy Blu-Ray Details Leaking

By Adam Pawlus — Tuesday, August 30, 2011

Loose lips sink starships, and the eyes of the Empire are everywhere!  Speaking of eyes, since yours already laid eyes on these movies we're not considering anything a spoiler here, but MillenniumFalcon.com and numerous other sites lit up today with MP3s, video clips, and details of new changes to the original trilogy.  Some sound good.  Some comments seem hyperbolic.  And it seems that, unsurprisingly, there are still a few things left to fix.
