The big figures are in this season, so we're happy to see new guys and more importantly, new old guys. There are new movie characters, there are original trilogy characters, and one of my absolute favorites is getting a big upsizing! In today's reveals, you'll find 5 new 6-inch action figures which could be in your hands over the next year.
New at Toys R Us, the exclusive Star Wars: The Black Series Action Figure - Rey (Jedi Training) on Crait has been revealed! She's due in November for $34.99. The figure is a new one, more or less, with added cloth elements and a display base.
I had some time, so I threw up some more prototype pictures of the Landspeeder. Maybe you didn't see them, maybe you did, but here they are again with more angles. A panel for The Black Series was rescheduled from the web times, and I caught a livestream of it. As far as I can tell, there were no product reveals in the stream - so let's gawk over this Landspeeder some more!
I just snapped a few more (or better) shots of items the other day. Maybe you've seen these, but if not here's another look. (No, not another Luke.)
The Titan Hero Series Yoda is a great mishmash of his design from The Empire Strikes Back and the prequels, including his snake and cane from the Kenner era plus a lightsaber from the not-as-old era. I've felt that these 12-inch scale figures have been generally great - their only real shortcoming is my preferene for Original Trilogy-era characters, of which there have been precious few at this size. The production sample of Yoda looked so incredible that for $10, I'd strongly recommend everybody give him a good look when he hits stores in a little while.
You may have seen this from San Diego Comic-Con, but it was mobbed by people in a tight booth. At HasCon, there was more space between things, so you don't have to worry about being crushed alive from all sides while trying to look at an action figure. Also notable, many figures in the diorama were customized and a Luke Stormtrooper has an alternate, wet head. I was unable to find out if it's coming out or was just a thing for the booth, but the important thing tonight is that you can see it after the jump.
The 6-inch The Black Series Captain Rex will be available early at HasCon! And apparently you can also buy Headmaster Arcee, a Power Bank Optimus Prime, new Magic: The Gathering cards, and some other items that may or may not be shared or to be fully announced. We shall see! Click through to iO9 for more.
If you recall last year, Hasbro didn't announce its Jyn Erso exclusive until San Diego Comic-Con-goers were already on the ground. This year, we may (because it wasn't officially announced yet) be seeing this Star Wars: The Black Series Jedi Master Luke Skywalker and Jedi In Training Rey 2-pack as seen on the Jedi Insider today. It hasn't been officially announced at all, but it does look a lot like official Hasbro photography. More as we have it!
Debuting at San Diego Comic-Con at Entertainment Earth's Booth #2343, the Toys R Us Exclusive 6-inch The Black Series Star Wars Commander Gree is looking fantastic - it's just one of several items on sale there, including stuff from Twin Peaks, Guardians of the Galaxy, Transformers, and Justice League. Check it out, and get yours at the show!
Ad: Pre-Order 40th Anniversary Star Wars The Black Series Action Figures now! Get a Tusken Raider, C-3PO, a Jawa, a Death Star Trooper, a Stormtrooper, and Chewbacca in a case from Entertainment Earth.
Each 6-inch action figure is packaged on a vintage-inspired cardback with a foil logo in the top left corner, with three figures debuting in this wave! Don't miss out!
And if that weren't enough, surprising no one, Hasbro will make good use of its Imperial Officer body types to bring you Grand Mofff Tarkin later this year. It will include the Interrogation Droid, and look menacing.
If you're enjoying stomping the pavement to find R5-D4 at GameStops this weekend, good news - you can do it again in November! For a couple of bucks north of $20, the Imperial TIE Fighter Pilot variatnt Inferno Squadron Pilot should be up for grabs in November. It's like the TIE Fighter Pilot you have but with more red.
Last year at San Diego Comic-Con, Hasbro confirmed the winner of the Fan's Choice vote for the 6-inch The Black Series line - and it was Jaina Solo! She was in most of the novels since 1991 in some form or another. And that Jaina Solo had a massive, not remotely suspicious last-minute massive vote bot of sorts. Well. Anyway, we're getting her and here she is in a black pilot's suit. The Star Wars character was retconned out of the continuity with the Disney takeover, so don't be totally shocked if this happens again this year.
Grand Admiral Thrawn is coming! I know, Thrawn just left the building in Star Wars Rebels, but a 6-inch action figure melding his classic novel cover look with the uniforms of Star Wars Rebels is on the way. A normal version is coming for retail stores, and his art collection comes with the deluxe San Diego Comic-Con edition. It's worth noting that the exclusive version will be $49.99 this July, while the normal The Black Series one will be in the usual $20-$25 range. Ask yourself this - why should your toys have a better art collection than you do?
Historically Hasbro has had "plussed up" toys sold at San Diego Comic-Con International - better accessories or variant deco are frequent upgrades. This time around Hasbro will offer two different versions of Luke's Landspeeder. A $59.99 mass retail version will be made, with a $89.99 one with weathered paint, an engine, and seemingly more gear for the big convention. Which should you get? Whichever you can find.
